英语中那些成双入对的词，你知道多少

英语中这样的词很多，但是需要注意的是，成对词中前后的两个单词不能调换顺序，比如'bride and groom'，新娘新郎。英文中不会换个顺序说‘'groom and bride'’。

1) life and death 解释某件事并没有那么重要和严重，其结果并不会影响你的生死：

“I understand that you are worried about not handing in your assignment on time,but please don't worry too much, it's not a matter of life and death.”

我明白你因未能准时交作业而担心，但别太惴惴不安了，这并不是什么关乎生死的大事。

2) Trial and error 用不同方法不断试验直到找到最成功的方法：

“Because he was new to the city, finding the shortest route to work was a matter of trial and error.”

因为刚到这座城市，所以他不断尝试找到最短的上班路线。

3) Lock and key 妥善保管：

“I love my new smartphone so much, I keep it under lock and key when I am asleep."

我很爱我的新智能手机，睡觉时将它保管得妥妥的。

4) heart and soul 全心全意

We should serve the people heart and soul.

我们应该全心全意地为人民服务。

5) safe and sound 安然无恙

The missing child came back safe and sound.

那个失踪地孩子安然无恙地回来了。

6) bag and baggage 连同行李的

They quarreled last night and this morning she left, bag and baggage.

昨夜他们吵架了，今天早晨她收拾起自己的东西就走了。

7) black and blue 遍体鳞伤，青一块紫一块

After the fight, he was black and blue all over.

搏斗结束后，他遍体鳞伤。

1.头韵：押头的成对词不仅起到加强形容的作用，而且读起来丁当悦耳，富有诗意。

part and parcel 重要部分

wax and wane (月的)盈亏圆缺;盛衰
