Shenzhen's First Maker Space: Chaihuo

Chaihuo Maker Space is the first maker space in Shenzhen, and the second in China.

Its name comes from the Chinese saying "The fire burns high when everybody adds wood to it". “Chaihuo” is the Chinese word for “wood".In western phraseology, this might be expressed as “many hands make light work”.

Chaihuo provides an open and collaborative environment for makers and encourages cross-field communication.  Chaihuo was founded by Seeed Studio, an open hardware company in Shenzhen, China. Chaihuo is also the organizer of Maker Faire Shenzhen since 2012.

Chaihuo was visited by Mr. Li Keqiang, the premier of China on Jan 4, 2015, and has become the most famous maker space in China. Chaihuo is dedicated in spreading maker culture and building maker community in China, as well as providing a platform for foreign makers to learn about China ecosystem.

We provide a physical space for people to get access to tools and equipment, also for people to get together, to communicate.

The activities we have in Chaihuo Maker Space include: meetup and workshop.

Through meetup, veteran makers will share their experience/knowledge/insights, and starters can learn from this kind of sharing. People will gather to communicate, and there might be some new ideas and new partnerships coming out from this.

Through workshop, we provide hands-on experience for starters to lean some basic skills, such as laser-cutting, 3D printing and Arduino etc.
