Book Exchange | Sunday, June 4

This upcoming Sunday, from 3:30-6pm, we'll be open for checkouts and returns as usual. The discussion part of the event, though, will be a little different...

Around 4:30pm, we'll begin streaming the first episode of the new TV show American Gods, adapted from Neil Gaiman's 2001 novel. Afterwards we'll have a short discussion.

For those who haven't read the novel or watched the show yet, see a trailer for American Gods with Chinese subtitles (contains spoilers) here.

The book (and show) blends mythology with a modern-day American sensibility. A Rolling Stone article called it '2017's Trippiest TV Show,' if that gives you any idea of what's in store.

If you're not interested in American Gods, you can still check books in and out normally for the duration of the event. Either way, hope to see you on Sunday!

➤About the Book Exchange

• We are Shenzhen's biggest expat library, with around 700 English books and 200 Chinese/foreign language ones.

• During events we open up our collection for checkouts, returns, discussions, and the occasional special event.

• Run on volunteer power and hosted at a community center, we are always free and open to the public. No cover charge, no registration, no need to bring a book (although donations are always welcome).

• Drop by anytime from 3:30-6pm. You can make a quick book run or hang out for hours, it's entirely up to you.

• We meet twice a month, on Sunday afternoons or weekday evenings.

We’re inside an apartment complex called Shuiwei Xin Jiayuan (水围新家园). Once inside, walk all the way to the back and we’ll be on the right.
