Clockenflap, Hong Kong Music & Arts Festival

2017-10-18 shenzhenparty

Clockenflap has given fans even more reasons to look forward to this year’s edition with the announcement of a raft of acts newly confirmed to play Hong Kong’s biggest music and arts festival this November. Among the bands freshly unveiled for the festival’s 10th anniversary show are legendary live act THE PRODIGY, neo-soul heroes JUNGLE, psychedelic rockers TEMPLES, dubstep pioneer SKREAM and record-breaking Fab Four tribute act THE BOOTLEG BEATLES.

Also unveiled in the festival’s second lineup announcement are Mercury Prize-winning Scottish alternative hip-hop collective YOUNG FATHERS, Australian psychedelic rock maestros POND, British punk duo SLAVES, and J-Pop giants水曜日のカンパネラ WEDNESDAY CAMPANELLA, all of whom will join previously announced acts such as MASSIVE ATTACK, FEIST and THE DANDY WARHOLS at Central Harbourfront from Friday, November 17 to Sunday, November 19, 2017. Tickets are on sale online now.

The maverick trio behind some of the most intoxicating dance floor anthems of the ‘90s, from Out of Space and No Good (Start the Dance) to Breathe and Firestarter, THE PRODIGY are one of the most influential – and electrifying – electronic acts of all time. Fusing the spirit of punk into electronic music to thunderously infectious effect, the boys have sold more than 30 million albums, and their live shows are the stuff of legend. Clockenflap 2017 will be their first outing in Hong Kong since 1998, and they will be presenting their spectacular full live production.

Also headed for Hong Kong is seminal dubstep DJ/producer Oliver Dene Jones, better known as SKREAM. One of the genre’s biggest names since the release of his self-titled debut album in 2006, SKREAM is known for his hugely eclectic live sets that blend dubstep with garage, house, techno and even disco to irresistible effect, as anyone who saw his sold-out show in Hong Kong in 2014 will attest.

Fans of psychedelic rock will be on cloud nine as two of the genre’s most compelling acts bring their mind-bending live shows to Hong Kong for the first time. TEMPLES have been at the forefront of the UK neo-psychedelia scene since the release of their debut album Sun Structures in 2014, and the four-piece reaffirmed their talent with the brilliant follow up Volcano earlier this year. POND, meanwhile, who are closely associated with fellow Australian space rockers Tame Impala, are destined to win legions of new fans at Clockenflap as they perform songs from their critically acclaimed back catalogue, including recent release The Weather, in their blistering and technically brilliant live show.

Since winning the Mercury Prize in 2014 for their debut album Dead, Scotland’s YOUNG FATHERS have gone from strength to strength, collaborating with Massive Attack and providing the utterly infectious track Only God Knows for the T2 Trainspotting soundtrack. One of the bands they pipped to the Mercury Prize has arguably gone on to even greater success: modern soul barnstormers JUNGLE have played some of the world’s most respected festivals – from Glastonbury and Coachella to South by Southwest – since the release of their self-titled debut, with their hugely anticipated follow up expected to drop before the end of the year. Both bands will be making their Hong Kong debut at Clockenflap.

Sure to unite music lovers of all generations, THE BOOTLEG BEATLES have stayed true to the spirit of Liverpool’s Fab Four for almost 40 years, racking up more than 4,000 performances around the world. With their pitch-perfect renditions of the Beatles’ greatest hits, a singalong of epic proportions for all ages is guaranteed as the band return to Hong Kong for the first time since 2012.

Completing the festival’s second lineup announcement are English punk provocateurs SLAVES; Austrian electronic production duo HVOB who have joined force with Mumford & Sons’ guitarist WINSTON MARSHALL; Japanese electro-pop trio 水曜日のカンパネラ WEDNESDAY CAMPANELLA; Japanese-American singer-songwriter MITSKI; hotly tipped Scottish troubadour LEWIS CAPALDI; Swedish DJ/producer AXEL BOMAN; local Post-punk / Noise rocker DAVID BORING and Hong Kong’s own superstar DJ, MISS YELLOW.

The newly announced acts join Bristol trip-hop legends MASSIVE ATTACK, veteran US indie heroes THE DANDY WARHOLS, Canadian indie-rock chanteuse FEIST, and acclaimed world-music mavericks TINARIWENon this year’s bill.

Other previously confirmed acts include Danish electropop singer-songwriter MØ; shapeshifting US DJ/producer MATTHEW DEAR; Canadian electronic duo BOB MOSES; Chinese rappers HIGHER BROTHERS海爾兄弟; British-Nigerian Afro-electronica collective IBIBIO SOUND MACHINE; Norwegian DJ/producer CASHMERE CAT; Manchester indie-rock sensations BLOSSOMS; Taiwanese alt-indie band HELLO NICO; and an Asian festival exclusive performance from Korean future R&B singer-songwriter DEAN.

Hong Kong’s music scene will be represented by pop-rock outfit PER SE, Cantopop stars SUPPER MOMENT(performing a Clockenflap-exclusive set), and a hugely anticipated special reunion performance by local indie legends FAN HUNG A粉紅A.
