Make Your Own Bamboo Bicycle
WHY BUILDING A BAMBOO BIKE?
Bamboo is one of the best natural material to build a bicycle frame. Some species of bamboo are known to perform even better than steel. In short - bamboo is extremely strong, durable, yet lightweight. Thanks to its mechanical properties, bamboo is the best shock absorber among all widespread materials in use for bike frames.
Bamboo is a fast-growing plant, and 100% renewable resource, with some species growing 90 cm per day. Bamboo bicycles also look extraordinarily beautiful and unique - each hand made bike has its own flare! Finally, you will be immersing yourself in crafting techniques, cutting, drilling, sand-dusting, wrapping, building. Any maker will tell you it’s a special state of mind, as well as strong bond towards that bicycle.
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
The workshop trainer has personally built over 500 bikes - we can easily call him The Bamboo Bike Master! You will be very hands-on during the workshop and you will do: measuring, marking, drilling, cutting and sanding bamboo poles, waxing, mixing epoxy, wrapping carbon fiber, assembling.
COSTS OF THE WORKSHOP
The cost per bike is 5000 CNY including all materials and tools. You get to keep the bike, it’s all yours! Spots are limited to 5. Additional 3-5 spots can be opened for an additional 500 CNY per spot.

The main event facilitator is Shekou International School and execution team of the workshop is innovateSHENZHEN.org team. We provide a variety of innovative training and consultancy in Shenzhen.
What you need to know before you say YES!
1 bike should be built by at least 2 people - invite someone to help you - preferably 2 people.
We start at 9 am sharp and finish at 5 pm. It’s full 2 days for 1 bike.
Wear old clothes, it can get messy.
The deadline for advance payment is 12th of May.
We will need a height of a person for whom the bike is built for. You can tell us once you register.
