2015年，山东大学与芝加哥大学签署两校合作备忘录，在多个学科与领域进一步进行交流合作。 2016年底山东大学张荣校长访问芝加哥大学时，两校又在原备忘录的基础上，同意在山东大学青岛校区合作建设公共治理研究院，旨在推进山东大学与芝加哥大学在治理领域加强研究合作，并开展其它有关学术活动。
作为山东大学与芝加哥大学的合作结晶，山东大学公共治理研究院于2017年7月13日在山东大学青岛校区正式举行揭牌仪式。研究院致力于推动公共治理领域的重大问题和相关政策的研究，力求拓展国际研究合作，并为中国公共治理研究提供新视角。
ShandongUniversity and the University of Chicago entered into a MOU in 2015 to furtherpromote exchanges and cooperation in multiple fields. During ShandongUniversity President Zhang Rong’s visit to the University of Chicago in late2016, the two universities further agreed to cooperate on the development of agovernance institute in Shandong University (Qingdao) with the aim of promotingcollaboration in research and other academic activities bearing on the betterunderstanding and promotion of governance.
Aproduction of the strong relationship between Shandong University and theUniversity of Chicago, the Shandong University Institute of Governance isofficially unveiled on July 13th, 2017 on the Qingdao campus ofShandong University. The Institute will promote research on major issues andpolicies in the field of governance, expand international cooperation andprovide new perspectives for the study of governance in China.
