成军于2009年，之所以取名为Cicada（蝉）是因为人们察觉到蝉的出现，往往是听到牠们的声音，而不是看见其形体。蝉以一种低调的方式缓缓渗进人们的生活，即便，牠们蛰伏十七年只为了一个夏季吟唱。深受摇滚乐影响的Cicada，企图将学院音乐教育转化为浓厚叙事色彩的室内乐作品，不仅尝试拓展多元视野，与跨领域的艺文好友共同合作，也盼能透过不同编制开啓更丰富的风景。成团初期由小提琴、大提琴、木吉他与钢琴组成；2015年重组为五重奏，成员为小提琴、中提琴、大提琴、钢琴与木吉他，持续以海与土地为创作主题，谱写属于台湾的音乐。
2010年，Cicada 的第一场公开演出，是为冰岛钢琴作曲家Ólafur Arnalds台北演唱会开场；隔年推出首张正式专辑《散落的时光》，概念延伸自EP《Over the Sea/Under the Water》。2012年的迷你专辑《一起走吧》主题是「少女」，拆散既有编制，轻巧的配器呈现出截然不同的面貌。2013年，Cicada开始为台湾的土地创作，《边境消逝》以西海岸为主题，用一种拟人化的方式，想像这片土地面对各种变迁时的心路历程。
2015年发行的《仰望海平面》是一张关于海洋的专辑，描绘的是台湾的东海岸，以及包围著东部小岛的太平洋。Cicada以音乐模拟海的各种样态，包括难以捉摸的海流、高高撑起的长浪、礁岩旁的碎浪、来回抚触岸滩的浪沫……这裡有阳光、有晚风，有青春热闹，也有探入内心的自省──大海映照出的就是这些说不完的故事。

Cicada - 汇流向海
2015年12月，Cicada携专辑《仰望海平面》进行了首度的大陆巡演。
即将发行的专辑《不在的你们都去了哪里》简介
Cicada的全新创作《不在的你们都去了哪裡》是一张关于动物的专辑，不仅有来自海洋的鲸豚、珊瑚与海龟，也有居住在城市的猫与山林中的鸟。
专辑曲目围绕着与动物、海洋有关的主题：〈等待再一次跃出水面〉以不同的速度感，描绘台湾东海岸常见的飞旋与花纹海豚；〈原本是家的地方〉则从白海豚的角度，叙述其栖地与台湾西部离岸风机发展的现状；〈不在的你们都去了哪裡〉由珊瑚产卵的梦幻场景开始，随著海水暖化等环境剧变，珊瑚渐渐地白化了。Cicada企图透过弦乐、钢琴与木吉他的纯器乐演奏，勾勒出人类与海洋的关系，以及动物们的处境。
专辑《不在的你们都去了哪里》将在2017年11月23日发行，并于2018年一月到深圳、广州、上海、杭州、重庆、成都演出。

Cicada - 等待再一次跃出水面 (new song)
Cicada from Taiwan was formed in 2009 consists of violin, cello, acoustic guitar, and piano. It's named after Cicada because people are aware of cicada's existence by their sound instead of forms.
In 2013, Cicada began to compose for Taiwan. The theme of “Coastland” was the west coastland in Taiwan, and “Light Shining Through the Sea” was inspired by the east coast of Taiwan and the Pacific Ocean. These two album personify the land and portray the feeling undergoing all the changes and damages. We later collaborated with the Japanese label flau to release “Ocean” based on these two albums.
In 2016, Cicada selected 14 songs from “Over the Sea /Under the Water”, “Pieces” and “Let’s Go!” with the new recording and production to make the album “Farewell”.
The most recent release in 2017 “White Forest” was dedicated to animals including coral reefs, sea turtles, humpback whales, dolphins, as well as cats in the city and birds in the mountains. Cicada portrayed the relationship between human and ocean and its impacts to animals with their music.
About new album
White Forest is dedicated to animals including whales, dolphins, coral reefs, sea turtles, as well as cats in the city and birds in the mountains. Along with "Ocean" is the series of Cicada's work themed with marine and land.
“Dolphins Leap” proceeds with different speeds to imitate spinner dolphins and risso's dolphins. “Used to be Home” portrayed the impact of offshore wind energy caused on white dolphin's habitat from their point of views. “Whale Family” is about humpback whales caring and raising babies. “White Forest” starts from the dreamy coral reef spawning into their bleaching due to seawater warming. Cicada's attempts are to describe the relationship between human and its impact on ocean and animals.
