 When Hunger Urges


又到了上菜的时刻。

我们的菜单看似多元,实际上就是一种口味,所谓的“包容”并不存在。它的缺陷,行家里手一眼便可以看穿,但也正因如此,我们才得以不需要顾及旁人的看法,随着自己的性子一意孤行下去。

或许常人看来,这些现代文明社会的原始人,犹如一群逐臭之夫,忙忙碌碌制锅起灶,将一束火苗化为篝火,却只是为了在这南国城中一村,烹制出一餐自以为伟大而疯狂的烧烤。

殊不知臭味相投的人,就算远隔千山万水,也终究会走到一起。感谢饥饿,让我们以蝼蚁之心雄踞于此!

最后,请忘乎所以地竭力嘶吼吧(印度那场不要)。


It’s feast time, again!

Though it seems like that we are presenting massively diversity every year, they actually share the very same uniqueness. To be honest, it is never about the “inclusiveness” that we are talking about all the time. The real professional can just see through its flaw at one sight. Eventually, it just becomes the exact reason why we will have to persist in with our own temper without considering the views coming from others.

It may seems a little bit pointless to the general society when it comes to this special bunch of people who don’t follow up the current trend. They found awkwardness in this rapid-developing society as they always stick to their own minds. They gather together in this factory house in this small city in Southern China, they gather here just to make a carnival which even doesn’t make much sense to anyone but only themselves.

But the real fact is that despite the long distance, people share the same tastes will eventually make their way together. Thanks to the motivation coming from hunger, we get the chance to build up the ideal tribe of our own, yet maintaining the humble heart.

Last but not least, just come and join those artists, scream out the hunger deep in your heart.

从早期先锋电子乐的解构作品,到更经典的爵士乐、电子乐和模拟音乐,不同时期、各种流派的音乐都给Feldermelder带来了灵感,成为他艺术创作的指路明灯。而这种多样性也同样反映在了他自己的声音冒险之旅中,使得他创造的声音总是富于变化。

Feldermelder’s influences range from the decomposed structure works of old pioneers of electronic music to more classic jazz, electronic and analog music. The diversity of the music that inspires him finds reflection in his own sonic adventures, forming his ever evolving sound, combining as map and compass to guide his artistic outbursts.

OvO has always been one of the most active bands in the noise-rock scene. They gain recognition worldwide for their original and unique music, with over 700 gigs and a large amount of releases, including albums, singles, collaborations, tracks on compilations and DVDs. They’re a duo formed by a little possessed singer and guitar player Stefania Pedretti and an enormous drummer Bruno Giuseppe Dorella who plays a mini-set like it was a full metal drum set. Their masked live performances are fabulous, and they’ve played them all over the world, from Mexico to Turkey, from Russia to the US.What they do is not easy to identify: you couldn’t say it’s noise or metal or doom or punk or rock and roll, or whatever, even if there’re a little bit of each of them. Certainly it’s neither free nor avant-garde nor improvised. For once, we can really say that it’s a band that cannot be sorted.

她是曾经的日本朋克传奇人物,现今乐坛最具革命性的声音之一。
Phew的音乐生涯从在Aunt Sally乐队担任主唱开始——那是一支来自神户的传奇朋克乐队,只短暂存在于1978年到1979年。时至今日,这位歌手及前卫艺术家一如既往地另类。2013年,她开始以个人形式进行演出和唱片录制,运用模拟合成器、老式鼓机和她自己的人声,有时结合影像,开拓了全新的疆域。2015年12月,她发行了她第一张运用20年音乐生涯中各种原始元素的solo专辑,名为《A New World》,充满了嘎吱变化的旋律和沉闷不安的合成器低鸣,一切包裹于Phew极具特色的嗓音:阴郁、低沉,抽离于具有辨识度的情感。这张专辑呈现了Phew从朋克、即兴到实验流行所经历的最新转变,其中包括她与许多人物,如坂本龙一 、山本精一、 Jim O’Rourke和传奇德国制作人Conny Plank的合作。

Phew, former Japanese punk legend and one of the most radical voices in music today. Phew started her musical career as singer for Aunt Sally, a legendary punk band from Kobe who were around for a short period between 1978 and 1979. She debuted as a solo artist in 1980 with “Shukyoku (Finale)”, a collaborative single with Ryuichi Sakamoto. In the following year she went in to Conny Plank's studio in Cologne, Germany to record her first full-length album with Plank as well as Holger Czukay and Jaki Liebezeit from CAN.In 2000, she formed the punk band MOST with former Boredoms guitarist Seiichi Yamamoto. In 2010, she released “Five Finger Discount", her first solo album in 15 years, to a critical acclaim.In 2013 Phew started performing and recording solo, which saw her exploring new terrain with the use of analog synthesizers, vintage drum machines, her own voice and sometimes visual images, too.

作为中国前卫乐坛极为活跃和多产的两位音乐家,李剑鸿和马木尔近年进行了多次现场即兴合作。2015年11月,李剑鸿、马木尔以及张东在北京首度合作。2016年3月,李剑鸿应马木尔和张东之邀远赴乌鲁木齐,在嬉游LIVEHOUSE三人进行了一场长达一个半小时的自由即兴演出。演出结束当晚,他们决定成立一个固定组合,进行更有方向性的探索,并参加明天音乐节。他们三人的组合建基于各自丰富的音乐经验,吉他、贝斯、鼓这传统的三大件在他们手里充满了前卫的张力,迅疾灵动地跨越繁杂多变的音乐类型,从氛围太空到迷幻噪音到工业摇滚......不可捉摸,难以名状。他们的音乐,是无止境的实验和有洁癖的噪音,是黑夜的游击队,只有明天的晨光才能暴露他们的脚印。

Mamer & Zhang DongMamer is an excellent figure in Chinese contemporary music landscape.In the year of 2008, he gained an international  reputation for his album “Eagle” released by the well-known British label Real World. Mamer founded the legendary band IZ Band in 2002. He and Zhang Dong formed another 5 bands named Bande, Kunakar, 51-Rayon, Mekrop and TAT. Though with the same members, the music style of each band can be easily distinguished from each other.

Li JianhongGuitarist Li Jianhong is a leading figure in mainland China’s free improvisation music scene. His involvement in China’s experimental/noise/avant-garde culture started in the late 1990s.Over the years, Li Jianhong has always been dabbling in different genres such as free improvised music, noise and psychedelic. In 2008, he began to explore new directions under the name of “Environment Improvisation”, focusing on the relationship between environment and performing.

著名西塔琴演奏家Pandit Narendra Mishra出生于瓦拉纳西一个有名望的音乐世家。他从小就跟随父亲Pandit Mannu Lal Mishra学习西塔琴演奏,而后拜入西塔琴大师Ustad Vilayat Khan门下深造。10岁第一次登台,便开启了他辉煌的演奏生涯。通过刻苦的练习和执着的付出,他全身心地投入音乐,并获得了印度多个最重要的音乐文化组织所颁发的奖项。过人的天赋让Pandit Narendra Mishra得以让印度的许多伟大的塔不拉演奏家为他伴奏,如Samrat Kishan Maharaj和Pandit Samta Prasad。2002年,他在英国女王伊丽莎白二世登基50周年庆典上为她演奏。

Pandit Narendra Mishra is a renowned sitar player hailing from a famous family of musicians from Varanasi. He commenced his study in sitar playing at a very early age under the tutelage of his father and completed further training under sitar maestro Ustad Vilayat Khan.He gave his first performance at the age of ten and thereafter achieved great success. With extraordinary practice and dedication, he devotes his life to music and was rewarded by numerous awards in the most important musical and cultural institutions of India.Pandit Narendra Mishra's talent gives him the privilege to be accompanied by great tabla players such as Samrat Kishan Maharaj, Pandit Samta Prasad and many other renowned tabla players in India. In 2002, he played for the Queen Elisabeth II at the Golden Jubilee.

这支中国最为惊世骇俗的前卫摇滚乐队,初创于1998年,2000年正式稳固阵容。当年的木推瓜一如怀揣悲悯的猛兽,既荒诞又贴近现实,带给人从毛孔到灵魂的震颤:“他们讽刺、鞭挞、侮辱、吊唁,驾轻就熟又信手拈来,如羚羊挂角般毫无做作的痕迹,轻描淡写地将丑恶的现实和美好的理想在音乐的熔炉里铸成了一座丰碑。”木推瓜的音乐风格大体是在艺术摇滚的基础上保持着硬摇滚的粗粝与早期朋克无所顾忌的姿态,音色和结构也常呈现未来主义特征。唱腔如刀刃一般,游走在摇滚与歌剧的边缘;吉他贝斯走向暴烈疯狂,又内含自省;鼓则隆隆前驱,摧枯拉朽……整体上大开大阖,戏剧感强烈,酒神、批判、悲剧、讽喻的精神混杂其中,彰显迸射。去年夏天,机缘到了,解散数年的木推瓜原班人马一拍即合。关于重组,乐队如是说:“摇滚乐,不管内在精神与外在声响,既要有冷兵器时代弓弩激射的劲力,也要充分利用热兵器时代的火力,这不,尘封十五年的克虏伯大炮再度上膛了!” 

As one of the most astonishing progressive rock band in Chinese music scene, Wood Pushing Melon (WPM) was found in 1998 and had their lineup settled in 2000.WPM was a beast with a heart full of compassion, absurd yet real, shocking the listeners from inside out. Based on art rock, music style of WPM keeps both the roughness of hard rock and cynical attitude of earlier punk, with traces of futurism shown on the tune color and structure of their works. Their blade-like singing walks the edge of rock and opera, and the raging trends of guitar and bass are fierce yet filling with introspection, while their drums rolling along like crushing dry weeds and smashing rotten wood.The band had been disappeared from public for more than a decade. Until last summer, thanks to the efforts of all members, they finally decided to come back together.

Krautrock的先驱,反传统的异类——faUSt,他们是20世纪音乐的关键人物。在70年代初期,faUSt与Can、Kraftwerk一起重新定义了流行音乐,创造出一种欧洲特有的艺术形式。在被宝丽多唱片(Polydor)“囚禁”于他们自己的录音棚里的那两年,他们彻底革新了整个音乐制作的流程;他们用工业噪音进行即兴,制造出诡异催眠的律动,沉溺于随心所欲的拼贴创作,将任何你能想象到的音乐类型“玩弄”于鼓掌之间,甚至有时候同时进行着这一切!有人赞美faUSt是摇滚乐的神来之笔,也有人嗤之为不知羞耻的半吊子。人们对于他们对达达主义、前卫摇滚和自由即兴的拼贴创作有着截然不同的看法,从1970年一直到现在,这种分歧从未消失。这是faUSt有史以来第一次来华演出!

Inventors of “Krautrock”, iconoclasts extraordinaire, faUSt are key figures in 20th Century music. In the early 70's, along with Can and Kraftwerk, they re-invented pop music as a specifically European art-form. Virtually imprisoned by Polydor in their own studio for two years, they were able to revolutionize the whole process of musical production; they improvised with industrial noise, generated bizarre hypnotic grooves, indulged in shockingly willful studio-based collages, and dabbled with every conceivable musical genre, sometimes simultaneously!Whilst some lauded faUSt as the best thing that ever happened to rock, others dismissed them as shameless Dilettantes. Their collage of Dadaism, avant-garde rock and free improvisation radically divided opinion from 1970 till now.For the first time ever, faUSt is going to perform in China!

灰野敬二最初受Antonin Artaud的启发而致力于戏剧,而后来与大门乐队(The Doors)的不期而遇则促使他走上音乐之路 。从早期的蓝调——尤其是Blind Lemon Jefferson,到欧洲中世纪音乐,再到世界各地的流行音乐,他广泛研究和吸收了各种不同类型的音乐。他通过激烈的肢体动作和独特的技法,在演奏中试探着乐器的极限,无论是吉他、打击乐、绞弦琴(hurdy-gurdy),还是各类管弦乐器、来自世界各地的民族乐器,亦或是DJ备,都呈现出无与伦比的声音,充满了超然的萨满仪式感和狂烈震撼的才智与认知。“若说日本噪音一派是以全频率的极端噪音去掩没一切风格的话,灰野则是用其一音、一音的手段去切碎一切旋律、节奏这些促生风格的基本之物。”——杨波

Inspired by Antonin Artaud, Keiji Haino aimed for the theatre, but an encounter with The Doors stimulated him into music, where he has examined and absorbed an extremely wide range of music from the early blues especially Blind Lemon Jefferson or European medieval music to popular songs across the world.Drawing performance to the extreme of the guitar, percussions, the hurdy-gurdy, diverse wind and string instruments, local instruments from across the world and DJ gears through keen physicality and unique techniques, he delivers incomparable sound that is full of shamanism without transcendency as well as raging intelligence and awareness.

Brian Turner将与我们分享关于独立电台WFMU迷人的一切:它独特的历史;它关于自由形式(相对于“特定类型”)节目的哲学;它是如何善用基于视觉/网络的方式来与艺术家及厂牌联动,从而构建这样一个社区型的电台;它的档案馆藏;它与地下音乐的羁绊;它是如何不依靠政府或商业资源而成功筹集资金……以及以上种种如何共同将它造就为一个为全世界听众所熟知的文化机构。

Brian Turner will discuss WFMU radio's unique independent history, philosophy about freeform (as opposed to genre-specific) programming, how that as well as visual/internet-based methods can be used as a tool to network with artists and labels and build up a community station, how WFMU fundraises independent of government or commercial sources, its archives, approach to underground music and how it all ties together to make it a well-known cultural institution amongst its listenership.

Death By Audio由Oliver Ackermann创建于2001年,是一间主营手工效果器的小型公司。Lightning Bolt、Wilco、Nine Inch Nails和U2等乐队都使用过其产品。Oliver Ackermann将会在讲座中与我们一起回顾他的旅程:从自己捣腾音响设备电路,到创建Death By Audio效果器公司,乃至影响和启发了一众纽约当地的艺术家并结成组织,与此同时还组建了世界巡回演出项目A Place to Bury Strangers。他还会在讲座中与我们详细介绍他们独创的录音技巧和理念,以及音乐空间的声感理论,探讨视觉刺激如何对声音产生巨大影响,并讲述如何制作效果器电路和乐器,更重要的是让我们了解到——通过坚持做自己喜欢的事情来保持艺术的纯粹性是多么重要。在此之后,还会有使用Oliver Ackermann亲自设计和制作的效果器及声音装置进行现场实操演出的环节。

Founded in 2001 by Oliver Ackermann, Death By Audio is a small handmade effects pedal company, providing effect pedals for bands such as Lightning Bolt, Wilco, Nine Inch Nails and U2. In the lecture we will travel through Oliver Ackermann's journey of teaching himself how to design and destroy audio circuits, creating the Death By Audio effects pedal company, inspiring a large group of artists in New York to form a collective, all the while forming a world touring performance project A Place to Bury Strangers.The lecture will also go into detail original recording techniques and concepts, theory of sound perception in live spaces, how visual stimulation impacts audio, creating effect circuits and instruments, and the importance of keeping art pure by doing anything you want.This will be followed up with a hands-on performance of effect pedals and sound making devices designed and built by Oliver Ackermann.

Julien Perrin’s documentary follows the two founding members, Jean-Hervé Peron and Zappi Diermaier (with newcomer Amaury Cambuzat), as they travel to their small rural origins of Wümme, exploring the band’s construction and the legacy they eventually created. While a significant portion of the film exhibits their irrational and mesmerising stage antics, equally as interesting is the way in which through interviews and fly-on-the-wall insights Perrin’s observations humanise these characters, revealing them to be non- pretentious, intelligent men who never had ambitions to become the next huge rock act.As with all great music documentaries, the film provides much for fans to enjoy while also presenting a perfect entry point for newcomers. ”— James Merchant, Raindance Film Festival
