Why China? Why SAIF MF? 为什么TA们来到这里翻开人生闪亮的新篇章

Over the past 11 years since SAIF was established, excellent international students from all over the world have always been an important part of our big family. We have welcomed carefully selected students from dozens of top universities including Harvard University, the University of Chicago, the London School of Economics and Political Science, Ecole Centrale Paris, the University of British Columbia, etc. to continue their academic pursuit at SAIF MF.

This year, in the midst of unprecedented pandemic, SAIF MF still attaches great importance to internationalization and strive to provide strongest educational experience for our international students as ever. Yet in the face of difficulties such as taking remote courses under the influence of time difference, our international students have remained committed to their studies and tied very closely to MF community. 

From voices of SAIF MF international students we have found these high-frequency key words which may explain why SAIF is their dream school.

Now, let's meet two of our brilliant MF20 International students Romain and Jessie. Due to the Covid-19 situation, Romain is currently in France and experiencing his SAIF journey virtually. Meanwhile, Jessie got the chance to travel to China before lockdowns and is now taking courses on campus. How do they think about their SAIF life so far? Let's hear about their SAIF stories.

Hello, I am Romain Pasquier-Flaud, I am 23 and I am from France. I have achieved a 4-Year Bachelor of investment banking major at EDHEC Business School.

I had the opportunity to put my knowledge into practice thanks to the different internships I have done. I have worked as a client management intern for one year at Natixis Hong Kong and 6 months as a trader assistant at Société Générale Paris, on equity derivatives desk. 

My mother is an air hostess so I had the chance to travel in various countries such as Brazil, USA, Africa, etc. I like to discover new cultures and to get out of my comfort zone. Sport also takes an important part in my life, I played soccer and basketball at competition level.

I am passionate about financial markets and I would like to work in a well-known investment bank after I graduate from SAIF.

Why China? Why Shanghai?

I have done a 6-month academic in China in 2017. This experience made me realized that I like the dynamic atmosphere of the Chinese market. I think that it is important to start a career in a fast-growing and developing environment. I like to experience new adventures and to discover new cultures.

Moreover, Shanghai is an international financial hub. It is often ranked in the top 5th of the largest financial cities worldwide and it is still developing. To me, Shanghai is one of the best place to start a career in Finance. I think that it is full of opportunities and interesting challenges.

SAIF is My Best Choice

I discovered SAIF master of Finance thanks to the Financial Times Ranking. There are many factors that convinced me to join the SAIF MF. First of all, the consecutive Asia No.1 ranking undoubtedly reflects the good quality of the courses and the expertise of the professors in their fields.

The curriculum offered by SAIF MF is really complete in term of financial studies, but also in quantitative methods and machine learning. 

Moreover, SAIF MF also places great emphasis on soft skills via the ELSA (Extended Learning and Student Activities) and other diverse activities. The atmosphere between the students and SAIF teams is friendly and cordial.

My SAIF Story Begins

To be honest, studying at SAIF MF is quite intense, but the MF team takes good care of students to ensure their success.

I wish to acquire strong quantitative skills and to strengthen my financial knowledge here. I also wish to acquire useful and up to date knowledge that is in connection with the current financial industry changes and challenges.

I believe that SAIF MF will empower me with cutting-edge skills and bridge my past experiences and my dream career path in Chinese market successfully.

Hey guys, I am Jessie. I graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Commerce. During the past four years, I got several internships in different parts of the finance industry, such as trusts, futures exchange, and stock index selling. I also spent two months at the Chinese University of Hong Kong as a summer exchange student in 2018. 

I love to explore different cultures, and I was so fortunate to have received education in all these three amazing cities— Shanghai, Toronto, and Hong Kong. When I am free, I would love to watch some movies, anime, or listen to music to soothe the stress. 

What Stands Out in SAIF MF

Because of my multi-cultural background, I looked for universities around the world, such as China, Canada, the U.S., and the U.K when I decided to pursue a master degree. For Chinese universities, I only considered the C4 universities (Tsinghua University, Peking University, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University) and did a lot research on top master of finance programs in China. After my research, I was captivated by SAIF MF's professionalism and internationalization, and I pinned down SAIF MF as my first choice without hesitation.

SAIF is deeply rooted in Chinese top university SJTU and the professors here got PHD and tenure from world top-ranking universities such as MIT, Stanford, UBC etc. SAIF MF is both international and very professional in Chinese financial market. These give me a feeling of belonging while I was struggling if I could find a right program which suits my multi-cultural background in Chinese traditional education system. 

Now I almost finished my first semester at SAIF, I feel very grateful and lucky about the choice I made.  I believe SAIF MF is one of the best options for international students like me who are looking for world-class learning experience and deep insights about Chinese financial market.

At SAIF, I met so many professors I admire, I heard of many of them when I was in Canada. It's such a great honor and privilege for young people like me to meet and learn from these renowned professors and big figures in the industry. I feel sincerely grateful about the amazing opportunities SAIF have provided me, and I learned a lot more than I expected. The courses here are very paractical and up to date. Studying at SAIF is bound to be an action-packed and enjoyable experience. 

As the old saying goes:" all work no play makes Jack a dull boy." Though SAIF MF is well known for the rigorous curriculum, I can tell you that one can never be a dull boy here at SAIF. The student activities here are very joyful and well designed. Campus life has never been more involved in my life for the first time. From the first day of the new term, my life is fulfilled by the wide variety of activities and I spent great time with my lovely classmates. 

Thanks to the SAIF MF program, I truly believe that coming to SAIF is the best decision I ever made.
