“半只苹果”，是 half an apple 还是 a half apple？
1. 在表示“半…”时，一般用half a(an)。
例如：half a year（半年），half an hour（半小时）, half a day（半天），half an apple（半只苹果）
2.表示“一个半的…”，可以说“one and a half+复数名词”，或者 “one+单数名词+a half”
比如：one and a half hours或one/an hour and a half（一个半小时）
2. 表示“二个半的…”时，那么名词都要加 s 了。
比如：two and a half hours 或 two hours and a half（两个半小时）
3. half 的用法与 all 和 both 相同：
1）既可用作形容词（或称限定词）修饰名词，如：half the year（半年）, half the work（一半的工作）, half the fruit（一半的那个水果）。
2）亦可用作不定代词，受of短语修饰，如：half of the work（工作的一半）, half of the year（一年的一半）, half of the fruit（水果的一半）。
上述两种表达形式在意义上没有明显的区别，只是 half 的词性不同。
再如：
① Half (of) the girls are foreigners.
这些姑娘有一半是外国人。
② Half (of) the fruit was bad.
水果有一半是坏的。
③ Half (of) my friends live abroad.
我的朋友有一半生活在国外。
④ About half (of) the country is covered by forests.
这个国家有一半国土都被森林覆盖。
