 毫无根据地瞎猜

►含义：

A wild, unsubstantiated guess; also, an attempt that has little chance for success. 

一种胡乱的、无事实根据的猜测，同时也指一种成功机会很小的尝试。

►例句：

It was a shot in the dark, but the engineers had a hunch that replacing the valve would make the system work

这是一种毫无根据的猜测，但工程师们有一种直觉，就是把阀门还掉或许就能让系统工作。

►对话：

A: Looks like I missed the key!

貌似我把钥匙弄丢了。

B:You can try looking for your key on the bed, but I think it's a shot in the dark.

你可以试试在床上找找，虽然我瞎猜的（但你不妨去找找，万一找着了呢）。
