王菲，原名王靖雯，以其极具辨识度的天籁空灵般嗓音，在华语歌坛创造了属于她自己的时代。她是首位登上美国《时代周刊》封面并接受CNN专访的华语歌手。她是身价最高，演唱会上座率最高，演唱会票房累计最高的华语女歌手。

1999年在王家卫电影《重庆森林》成功抢滩日本市场后，日本知名游戏公司史克威尔看中了王菲的歌喉，邀请她演唱《最终幻想8》（《FINAL FANTASY 8》）的主题曲《Eyes on Me》。

这首歌曲由植松伸夫作曲，染谷和美作词，滨口史郎编曲，加上全盛时期的天后王菲演唱，阵容堪称豪华。王菲也借着这首歌获得TBS电视台举办的1999年度日本金唱片大奖“亚洲音乐奖”，成为首位获得该奖的华语歌手，并在当年于武道馆连开两场演唱会，成功打开了日本市场，《Eyes On Me》的单曲销量也达到了40万张。
