Are You Aware of These Wine-Drinking Tricks?
After a stressful day at work, a call to my friends to gather at home for a glass of wine. Love those moments of laughter and being together… but what if you come home and realize your white wine is not chilled. No problem at all, here are some fun tips about how to chill your white wine fast, along with other tricks about drinking or using wine.
Tricks for Cooling Down Wines
Chill wine with a paper towel. If your bottle of wine is at room temperature and you want to chill it fast, wrap it in a paper towel and place it in your freezer. Wait 15 to 20 minutes. The paper towel freezes quickly and because it's in direct contact with the glass, the bottle will chill down super quick.
A great tip is always having a couple of frozen grapes in the freezer which you can use for emergencies to add in any white wine. The frozen grapes will chill your wine fast and gives a pleasure eating the fruits at the end.
A great trick, we are using often during CHEERS' wine tasting events when we have a short time and many bottles to chill. If you use a bucket of water, add salt in it and it will cool it quickly.
Use your kitchen sink, If you're hosting a party and need an extra ice bucket, use your kitchen sink. If you don't have room in your fridge, just fill the sink with ice and place the wine bottle in it.
Tricks for Removing Wine Stain
When parties are in a good mood, it can happen that one pours red wine on clothes, carpets or sofas. Don’t panic. There is a cure for everything. Here is how to remove red wine stains.
The most recommended way is cleaning it with salt. Salt is one of the secrets of removing that tough stain. First blot the stain with a piece of dry paper towel, then cover the stain in salt and let it sit for 45mins. Finally, press gently on the stain with a cloth soaked in boiling water and the stain will be gone.
One of the funniest ways I have ever experienced concerning removing wine stains was when at a party someone spilt wine on its neighbour shirt. Immediately, another friend on the table spilt her white wine over the red wine stains. The friend was surprised and the table was laughing. We pat the stain dry with a paper towel. Magically after it was dry the red wine stain was non-existing.
Milk and shaving cream works as well, and which one to choose is up to the status of stain.
-Use milk: While the stain is still wet, pour milk onto it and let it soak. The stain should be gone after an hour.
-Use shaving cream: If your stain is dry, cover it with shaving cream and then wash it in the washing machine with hot water.
Swirl Your Wine
Wine panel and head of auctions at Langton's Tamara Grischy said it's very important to swirl wine but not sparkling wine. She said, 'Swirling your glass before smelling and tasting the beverage 'opens up the aromas'. 'However, avoid swirling your glass when drinking sparkling wine as you'll shake the bubbles out,' she added.
Use Your Unfinished Wine
How often it happens, that you have leftover wines and you know you will not drink it within the next days… Well, one great trick I learned from chefs is pouring leftover wine into ice trays and placing them in the freezer. You can use it to chill drinks but more excitingly, you can use it for cooking too. Whenever you find a recipe where wine is required you can use the wine ice cubes and you don’t need to open a full bottle.
