Grapefruit Su IPA on Tap!
This past weekend at Great Leap Brewing, we were proud to release both our newest beer and the third addition to our Three Su Series of beers – the Grapefruit Su IPA.
The Grapefruit Su IPA is the third member of our Three Su Series, where we infuse Sichuan peppercorns and fruit into different beer styles. This 7.0% IPA has slight estery notes on the nose from a Belgian yeast strain, and drinks refreshingly fruity, zesty, and slightly tart with a slight bitterness at the end. This beer is now available at all three Great Leap Brewing locations for 50rmb a pint. Come out and taste it before it’s gone, and we hope you all enjoy Great Leap Brewing’s newest creation!
While our Three Su Series features most prominently fruits and Sichuan peppercorns, the series itself is named in honor of Su Shi, an 11th century literati born in Meishan, Sichuan Province, who is claimed to have been a writer, poet, painter, calligrapher, pharmacologist, gastronome, and statesman of the Song Dynasty. The reason it is known as the Three Su’s is because not only was Su Shi himself a famous man of his day, but his brother Su Zhe and father Su Xun were almost equally as famous. Hence, the Three Su’s. Now, you might currently be wondering – why would Great Leap Brewing name one of their beer series after the Su family? That’s because this series – much like the Honey Ma series, although entirely different – consists of beers made with Sichuan Peppercorn and a corresponding fruit. The Su family is from Sichuan Province, and the area they are from (Meishan) is known as one of the largest citrus fruits producing regions in all of China.
