匡時香港2017秋拍 | 「正是此刻」——西方當代藝術私洽展覽

匡時香港2017秋季拍賣會將於9月30日至10月2日在香港港麗酒店拉開帷幕,屆時將集中呈現中國書畫、瓷器雜項、珠寶尚品、茅台佳釀、養生滋補品等五大門類、近600件卓越不凡的雅逸珍品。


為開發國際市場和提升匡時品牌的國際影響力,香港匡時將於本次秋拍期間特別呈現「正是此刻」——西方藝術私人洽購展覽,推出包括大衞·霍克尼、格哈德·里希特、安塞爾姆·基弗、林飛龍在內的一批卓有成就的西方當代藝術大師作品,以及多位正在崛起的西方當代藝術家力作。


自2015年始,中國正歷經一個國內與國外都飛速擴張的西方藝術品市場。中國買家在世界藝術市場上的地位與日俱增,這反映了中國市場對於西方藝術品的需求。近幾年,中國買家在西方大手筆買入如巴勃羅·畢卡索和弗朗西斯·培根等大師級作品,藏家對於西方藝術史中影響深遠的藝術家和藝術運動有着越來越多的了解和認識。匡時了解到了這一蓬勃市場需求,並對此作出回應。我們很高興在匡時香港2017年的秋拍預展中向您呈現我們第一場西方當代藝術私人洽購展覽「正是此刻」。


Since 2015, China is experiencing a rising western art market both domestically and internationally. Chinese buyers started to be an important part in the internationally art scene which indicates the emerging demand for western art in the Chinese market. With many famous acquisitions of western masters’ works such as Pablo Picasso and Francis Bacon by Chinese buyers, collectors are increasingly gaining knowledge and expertise of the seminal artists and artists movements in the western art history. Council recognizes this taste shift and, in response, is pleased to announce its first western contemporary art exhibition/private sale “It’s About Time” with 2017 Fall’s autumn auction preview in Hong Kong.

「正是此刻」這個主題既代表了匡時對於當下藝術市場中國內藏家對開拓收藏新版塊的強烈需求的感知,也融合了我們期望給藏家在最合適的時機介紹最前沿的藝術家的理念。開發西方私洽版塊展覽滿足了國內客戶對於西方當代藝術的需求,也顯示了匡時注重為那些已對西方藝術有所了解的客戶提供更全面的西方藝術史資訊和分享。在本次展覽中,我們選擇了從現代到當代的20件作品,並根據其西方藝術編年史編寫了此本圖錄,意在為藏家展現一個更加基本和全面的西方當代藝術板塊和由來。此本圖錄由匡時西方戰後以及當代部門高級業務經理顧小騫和紐約現代藝術博物館素描和版畫部助理策展人Megan Kincaid撰寫。


 “It’s About Time” represents both Council’s understanding of the domestic needs of a new market and our effort to furnish a more comprehensive understanding of western contemporary art to our collectors. This approach satisfies the demand for contemporary art, while prioritizing the continued education and development of the informed, decisive, and enthusiastic Chinese buyer. In this exhibition, we selected 20 works, spanning from modern to contemporary art, and organized this accompanying catalogue based on important western art movements in order to outfit our clients with a nuanced understanding of the basis of western contemporary art and how it arrived at its current stage. The catalogue is written and curated by Xiaoqian Gu, Council’s senior business manager of western contemporary art and Megan Kincaid, assistant curator at the Drawings and Prints Department in the Museum of Modern Art, New York.

本次展品的選擇從二戰後的古巴藝術家林飛龍的作品開始,這位有着中國血統的古巴裔藝術家在巴黎學習期間一直與畢卡索等西方藝術大師一同創作。並在畢卡索的帶領下進入了當時的巴黎藝術圈,林飛龍參與了立體主義運動,超現實主義運動,和現代藝術最有名的大師如費爾南·萊熱,亨利·馬蒂斯,胡安·米羅和喬治·布拉克一起在現代藝術的最中心對話和交流。在這之後是一件由勒·庫布西耶所作的人物繪畫,創作於他用鋼筋混凝土設計出世界上首個現代意義上單元樓式住宅的時期。這件作品代表了由建築理念影響並改變我們對生活方式和城市的理解的年代,這個時期的思想為未來各個領域的現代化發展打下基石。在1950年,同時期的紐約藝術界正經歷著從抽象表現主義到之後的波普藝術的劇烈革新,逐漸成長為未來世界藝術產業的中心。主要生活在洛杉磯的英國藝術家大衛·霍克尼就是波普藝術運動的中心人物,他同時代表了歐洲和美國的波普藝術運動。就如同他的夥伴安迪·沃霍爾,羅伊·利希滕斯坦和理查德·漢密爾頓一樣,霍克尼把流行文化和大眾傳媒融合進了更高的藝術範疇。


In this selection, we began after World War II with Wilfredo Lam’s work, Cuban born artist with Chinese ancestry who worked alongside Pablo Picasso in Paris. With Picasso’s introduction into the Paris circle, Wilfredo took part in the cubist movement and surrealist movement, participating in the central dialogue about the development of modern art alongside the modern masters Fernand Leger, Henri Matisse, Juan Miro, and George Braque. Following is a figurative work of Le Corbusier, painted at the time when he designed his most famous Marseill housing unit, a residential unit using beton-brut concrete that defined our modern living style. This work also represents the time when these architects ideas changed our understanding of the lived experience and urban life, setting the fundamental touchstones for modernization across all fields. In 1950, about the same time, New York started to emerge as the future heart of art industry, beginning with Abstract Expressionism and later with Pop Art.   The British artist David Hockney is a central figure in the pop art movement, working primarily in Los Angeles he represents the Pop Art movement emerging both in Europe and America, working to integrate objects from pop culture and the media industry into high art contentm, as did his fellow Pop art masters, such as Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, and Richard Hamilton.

儘管在二戰之後,世界藝術中心從巴黎往紐約轉移,美國藝術家漸漸成為主流力量,歐洲藝術家還在堅持創作着審美極高並對戰爭和世界進行反思與批判的作品。德國藝術家比如格哈德·里希特和安塞爾姆·基弗就是抽象表現主義和新表現主義運動中最重要的兩位藝術家。到了20世紀末,對於藝術的定義已經在達達主義、杜尚主義等藝術思潮的影響下產生了巨大變化,在什麼是藝術品什麼不是藝術品之間已經沒有了明確的界限。在「世紀末的不確定性」這個版塊,我們帶來了丹尼爾·里希特,安尼施·卡普奧,吉姆·霍奇斯和馬丁·埃德,每位藝術家都有着自己對當代藝術和材料獨特的理解和表達方式。


Even though American artists took hold of the artistic center, moving it from Paris to New York in the postwar moment, European artists continued to make  critically charged and aesthetically elevated works that often reflected on the traumas of war and themes of universality. Many German artists took important part in the abstract expressionism and neo-expressionism movement as Gerhard Richter and Anselm Kiefer. Approaching end of the 20th century, the definition of art has changed profoundly in response to movements such as Dadaism and the legacy of the Duchampian readymade, and there no longer exists a concrete boundary between what can be and what cannot be conceived of as art. In the “Uncertainty at the end of the century,” we introduced artists Daniel Richter, Anish Kapoor, Jim Hodges, and Martin Eder, each with their unique approach to art and materiality.

“New Possibilities” introduces wide-ranging trends in artistic production found not only in New York with American artists working through concerns of medium, such as Sam Moyer, but also with artists from around the world. We selected emerging and established contemporary artists, with a special section dedicated to South American Artists, because as the definitions of art expand, so too does our sightline to areas of the world previously not considered at the center of the art market. The represented artists from Latin America, Abraham Palatnik of Brazil and Julio Le Parc of Argentina are both known for dealing with the Kinetic art movements in a distinctly South American context. Vik Muniz from Brazil has gained an international reputation and his works are in numerous public and private collections; his works mine art historical sources for canonical images, such as a riff on the famous Willem de Kooning Woman included in this exhibition. The cosmopolitan artists represented in our sale address the issues grafted by modern masters and locate new concerns about artistic practice that make contemporary art a unique period in its own right. These artists, Gregor Hildebrandt, Tim Enthoven, Bjorn Sparrman, Constance Tenvik, Michael Zelehoski, and Izamu Kato work across the globe and in multiple cities, representing the truly global scope of the art world. It is time for the Chinese collectors to fully participate in this global market, shaping it with their imprint and tastes.
