For most people, living in a dormitory constitutes as one of the most precious memories of school life. Although many embarked on different paths after graduation, their friendship with roommates endures the passage of time.

Reading through your comments for last week’s Chitchat topic, we got to know a variety of roommates, who each had a distinctive character, and witnessed a range of types of friendships.

While some had positive experiences, there were a few whose experiences were not as bright, which helped to form a panoramic picture of school life.

Let’s take a look at what our readers remembered about their roommates.

Some roommates are passionate. They often came up with crazy ideas.

@木腾腾Zoe

“One night, when my three roomies couldn’t fall asleep, while I slept soundly, they crept into my bed and drew a tortoise on my leg. I didn’t realize it until the next morning.”

@Dan

“One of my roommates planned to attend the CET test. However, earlier in the day, she opened her eyes, saw the clock and screamed ‘It’s 8:59’. All of us were shocked. Nevertheless, she regained her composure and fell asleep again.”

Some had a simple but rather authentic dormitory friendship.

@Seven Wendy~冯

“All of my roommates are kind, smart girls. I really miss them. I remember on my roommate’s birthday, we shared a lot of funny things, ate yummy cupcakes and took photos.”

Some had some trouble getting on with roommates.

@田氏

“I am in a Cold War with them…”

@韦文景|Karl Way

“Yesterday, one of my roomies went home. I don’t think we will be able to see each other again. In fact, we weren’t really in a close relationship. We always quarrelled, but we also hung out together, no matter what happened. I wish him a happy life.”

Some friendship transcends the stricture of time.

@楚狸子

“I’m waiting for their weddings.”

@君子之道

“How time flies. Yang was an impressive roommate. We always played computer games together. Now he is working in a project construction area, and so am I.”

@Chenxy

“I woke up from an impressive dream yesterday. I found tears running down my face, because the dream brought back so many memories of my school days, laughing with my dear roommates. The dream seemed to be so real.”

And late at night, dreaming of her girlhood,

She cries in her sleep, staining her rouged cheeks with tears.

What about having a celebrity roommate!

@emeeny

“She was popular on YouTube and, because of this, my life became public. Now I am popular too.”

Some regard mid-night chatting as the most precious memory!

@Cristel

“I always spoke to each of my roommates throughout the night. We would talk and then sleep at 5 am, and then we would skip class.”

Last but certainly not least, they are the cure for the pain of a break-up!

Episode 1 In the girls' dorm

@快意人生

“When I broke up with my ex-boyfriend, I didn’t tell others, because I didn't want others to have a miserable experience because of me. However, without notice, I burst into tears one day without saying a thing. My eldest sister in my dorm hugged me and comforted me, and she did it without having to ask. The other four told jokes and invited me to a feast. Yesterday, one of them got married! I wish her and the other girls a happy life forever.”

@Good girl

“When I broke up with my boyfriend, they comforted me all night. Dears, you were always by my side.”

Episode 2 In the boys' dorm

@Focus

“I miss those days when my roomies were crazy about their girlfriends and asked me to have a drink to get rid of their sadness.”
