It is Sept 10 again. This is a special day for Chinese as on this day we appreciate teachers and honor teachers for their special contributions.  

九月十日教师节又来到啦！我们会在这一天感谢老师的教导，表彰他们的特殊贡献。  

Teachers play an important role in the development of every nation, which is why their work is appreciated in many countries around the world. But what you may not know is that different countries mark Teachers' Day on different dates. Now let's have a look.

教育在世界各国的发展过程中具有重要作用，所以教师的工作备受推崇。但你知道吗，不同国家教师节的日期并不一样。

China marks Sept 10 as the Teachers' Day because new semester begins in September, creating an atmosphere of teaching and learning. Moreover, September has no other national celebration so it is easy to focus on Teachers' Day activities.

中国的教师节之所以定在九月十日，是因为九月是开学季，充满了浓郁的教学氛围。另外，九月份没有任何节假日，所以我们可以好好庆祝教师节。

UNESCO proclaimed Oct 5 to be World Teachers' Day in 1994 to commemorate teacher organizations worldwide and since then it's annually celebrated on this day in about 100 countries around the world.

联合国教科文组织在1994年将每年的十月五日定为世界教师节。全世界有上百个国家都在这天庆祝教师节。

However, some countries moved World Teachers' Day to another day, as in Australia. The reason is that schools in Australia are closed for holiday at this time in October, which is why the day is celebrated on the last Friday in October.

不过，包括澳大利亚在内的一些国家并不在这天庆祝教师节。澳大利亚的学校会在十月份停课休假，所以澳洲的教师节是十月的最后一个周五。

The United States' National Teacher Day is marked on Tuesday during Teacher Appreciation Week, which takes place in the first full week of May. It has been celebrated in the US every year since 1985. The celebration is exclusively for primary and high school teachers. Students may give small gifts to their teachers, who are forbidden to accept expensive presents. So gifts created by students themselves are popular during the week.

美国从1985年开始，就将每年五月的第一个整周定为“谢师周”，其中的周二就是全国性的教师节，不过只有中小学教师过教师节。教师节礼物一般都出自学生之手，因为老师们不能接收贵重的礼物。

Germany celebrates Teachers' Day on June 12. Students often give gifts to their teachers. It's a custom to display the presents in public so everyone can see them. Most teachers write thank-you note to the students for the gifts. Teachers are forbidden to accept expensive gifts. It takes two to three years for a college graduate to qualify as a teacher so they have high social status in Germany. 

德国的教师节是六月十二日。学生们送给老师的礼物会被公开展示，同时老师也会回送学生感谢卡。同美国一样，德国教师也不能接收贵重礼品。不过在德国，当老师可不容易。一般而言，大学毕业生需要经过两三年的培训才能拥有教师资格，不过他们也一般拥有较高的社会地位。

The birth date of the second president of India, Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, Sept 5, has been celebrated as Teachers' Day in India since 1962. On this day, teachers and students report to school as usual but the activities and classes are replaced by celebrations. In some schools, senior students take the responsibility of teaching to show their appreciation for the teachers.

印度自1962年起就将第二位总统兼教育家萨瓦帕利·拉达克里希南的生日，即九月五日，定为教师节。这天教师和学生们会照常到校，但他们并不上课，而是举行一系列的庆祝活动。一些学校里，高年级学生会代替教师授课，以表达对老师的感激之情。

In Republic of Korea, Teachers' Day falls on May 15. On the day, teachers are usually presented with carnations by their students and ex-students and schools often finish earlier that day. 

韩国的教师节是五月十五日。学生们在这天通常会送给老师康乃馨。学校也会提前放学。

Teachers' Day is celebrated in Singapore annually on the first Friday in September and is an official day off at school. Normally celebrations are organized the day before; students have a half day off to participate in festive events. They put on performances to entertain and honor their teachers.

新加坡的官方教师节是九月的第一个周五，通常这天学校都会放假。不过庆祝活动会在前一天举行，学生们会放假半天参与庆祝活动，载歌载舞感谢老师的劳动。
