Soap kills bacteria.   

肥皂杀菌

Actually: Soap only washes bacteria off without killing it.So why does soap work? Washing your hands with soap rids them of grease, which is the breeding ground for bacteria.

真相：肥皂只能洗掉细菌而不能杀死它们。那么问题来了，为什么要用肥皂？敲黑板划重点了！因为肥皂洗掉你手上的油脂，而油脂正是细菌的亲妈。

 If you swallow a piece of gum, it will stay in your stomach for 7 years.

误吞的口香糖会在胃里住七年

Actually: Although the viscous base of chewing gum is not susceptible to gastric juice and does not dissolve in it, it is excreted from the body naturally through muscular contractions of the stomach.

真相：咀嚼口香糖产生的粘性物质不会溶解在胃液中，而是会通过胃部肌肉收缩自然排出体外。

Shaving hair makes it thicker.

头发越剪越多

Actually: Shaving facial or body hair gives the hair a blunt tip. The tip might feel coarse or "stubbly" for a time as it grows out. During this phase, the hair might be more noticeable and perhaps appear darker or thicker — but it's not.

真相：不管是剃须还是剪发，发梢都会变成一个钝角的平面。毛发再次生长时，粗糙的质感会让你感觉毛发变得更黑更多，但这只是你的错觉。

Touching toads gives you warts.

摸过蟾蜍会长疣

Actually: Warts are benign growths caused by the human papilloma virus. You can pick it up in public places or through contact with a sick person.

真相：蟾蜍和青蛙不会传染疣给人类。疣是乳头状瘤病毒导致的良性增生，人类只有在公共场所活动或接触病人后才会感染疣。

Hair and nails grow after death.

人死后头发和指甲还在长

Actually: After a person dies, their skin becomes dehydrated and contracts, which creates the illusion of the growth of nails and hair.

真相：人死后，皮肤开始脱水和收缩，所以会给人头发和指甲还在长的错觉。

Bats are blind. 

蝙蝠什么都看不见

Actually: Although bats use echolocation to orient in space, they also use night vision under certain light.

真相：英国谚语“像蝙蝠一样瞎”(As a blind as a bat.)让人们误以为蝙蝠没有视力，但其实多数蝙蝠都能看到一米以内的猎物。用声波定位后，它们也能在一定光线条件下通过夜视功能捕猎。

 Water conducts electricity.   

水能导电

Actually: What conducts electricity are minerals with positively and negatively charged particles, which water molecules themselves don' t have. Therefore, distilled water, because of the lack of impurities in it, does not conduct electricity.

真相：矿物质带有正电荷和负电荷所以能导电，而水分子本身并没有。所以蒸馏水无法导电，因为它缺乏杂质原子。

Antibiotics kill viruses.

抗生素能杀死病毒

Actually: Antibiotics only deal with bacteria, killing them or stopping their reproduction but don't kill viruses. So it is important to find out whether the disease is caused by the bacteria or virus.

真相：抗生素不能杀死病毒，只能杀菌或阻止细菌繁殖。因此，生病时要搞清楚疾病是由细菌引起的，还是病毒引起的，这很重要。

（抗生素不是万能的，但没有抗生素也是万万不能滴！）

Sitting close to the TV worsens your eyesight. 

看电视离太近对眼睛不好

Actually: There is no evidence for this. However, sitting close to and watching too much TV can cause eyestrain (as many office workers can tell you after a longday staring at their computer screens).

真相：目前还没有证据证明看电视离得太近真的对眼睛不好。不过港真，离得太近或长时间看电视会引起眼部疲劳，这是天天面对电脑屏幕的上班族的辛酸啊！

Coke dissolves teeth. 

可乐会溶解牙齿

Actually: The myth that a tooth placed in a glass of Coke will dissolve overnight has been perpetuated for years. This is supposedly due to the presence of three acids — phosphoric, citric, and carbonic — in the drink. However, these can be found in many beverages.

真相：多年来都流传着可乐能在一夜间溶解掉牙齿的神话，现在这个神话要瞬间崩塌了。之所以会有这种说法是因为可乐里有磷酸、柠檬酸和碳酸。不过很多饮料都含有这些物质，所以喝完饮料记得漱口哦！
