Five years can be a real turning point in one's life. Some people become parents after graduating from college; some change their career and find a better-paying job; some move to another city to start a new life.

Even though you are not fully aware of how these changes determine your life, you'll be amazed how you've become a totally different person when you look back. The same thing goes with our country.

Thank you for sharing your stories with us. It's pleasant to see your thoughts on last week's Chitchat topic. Many of you have experienced great changes in the past five years. Cheers!

Let's take a look at some top comments:

New role

@take it easy

Five years ago, I was a single dog. But now I'm not alone anymore.

@LUJ

Five years ago, I was just a university student. Now, I am a PhD and will be a father next year!

@Max

In the past five years, great changes have taken place around me! On top of those, what affects me and my family is the abolition of the one-child policy. Thanks to President Xi, I have the opportunity to have a second child, which means a lot to me and my family. I always believe kids should have siblings, which is vital for them to grow healthy, both mentally and physically. Now, I have a happy family with a boy and a girl!

@多数是晴天

In the past five years, I lost a lot while I gained more. I lost my father forever in 2013 and my passion for love and marriage. But I got more. I went to three foreign countries for sightseeing, got a promotion in position. I won a difficult competition and got a 6,000 yuan prize. Last but not least, I met a man who loves me more than I do.

New lifestyle

@marie

Thanks to WeChat, we can keep in touch with our children everyday. Distance doesn't matter.

The past five years have seen comprehensive changes in almost every facet of our life. As a teacher, I would like to focus on education. With the updates for apps, my smartphone has more than facilitated my teaching. It has enabled me to keep track of the latest development of education, keep in close touch with my relatives, friends and students, and provide up-to-the-minute teaching materials.

@Bonnie

WeChat pay and Alipay are really convenient for everyone. Even in my hometown, the countryside in Anhui province, we can use these payment methods. What's more, lots of our foreign clients are shocked by China's development. I'm so proud of it.

@Miya

The biggest change in my lifestyle in the past five years is the sharing economy, such as sharing bikes, sharing charge pals and so on. They make my life more convenient.

Stronger country

@Brucezhang

In the new era, new inventions (high-speed train, Alipay, sharing bikes and mobile payment), together with the ancient ones (gunpowder, paper-making, compass and printing), contribute to a great, strong and mighty power in the world. China is also a melting pot filled with diverse cultures, where people are fueled with great passion under visionary leadership.

@Tuk Chamberlin

I've had a totally different new life in China since I came from California in 2016. WeChat, C-trip, Didi, Hello Chinese app, real estate agents, e-channel, sharing bikes and Taobao, etc. are such amazing things. They are really offering our lives so much more convenience. It is fun to live in and see China. And China is really moving forward to be bigger and bigger in the world. Cannot wait to see the new inventions.

China's progress is the result of the hard work of intelligent Chinese people. It's reasonable to hope for a more digital and dynamic China in the next five years.
