A female surnamed Zhao in Chengdu, a 25-year-old designer in a game company, said she was rejected in an interview because she was single, according to Tianfu Morning Post.

She was asked to appear for an interview for the position of designer where an HR executive asked her whether she had a boyfriend or not.

Zhao said she was not rejected because of her professional skills, but because the HR thought being single at 25 meant she lacked social skills.

According to data posted by NetEase, Jobs and Weibo, 71 percent of singles found it difficult to land jobs in 2017.

The news of Zhao went viral recently. Many netizens commented on the issue. "Maybe I need to find a boyfriend and then apply for a job," an internet user said on Weibo.

"You are given the cold shoulder when you are single because you 'lack' social skills; you are hated because of marriage and pregnancy when you are engaged; and you are disliked when you have children because they 'distract' you from work. What a hard life!" the other said.

Actually, there are a few unwritten rules in job interview. Whether you're looking for your first job or you're a seasoned professional, it never hurts to brush up on these basic rules.

Follow these rules before, during, and after the interview, and you're sure to shine.

1

Written rule: Where's your hometown?

Unwritten rule: The interviewer just wants to create a relaxed atmosphere. So relax, answer eloquently and be creative.

Model answer: I come from a southern province but many think I'm a northern girl. Perhaps because I have an imposing figure.

2

Written rule: What are your weaknesses?

Unwritten rule: Don't use generic terms. The interviewer has heard them countless times. You should spend time thinking about what your true weaknesses are and admit them.

Model answer: I am not very patient. That's obviously bad. But I am working on it every day, trying to control myself and be more tolerant to the others. It's not easy, but I definitely made good progress in recent years.

3

Written rule: Tell us something about yourself.

Unwritten rule: The interviewer doesn't want to know about your hobbies, your family, or even your favorite TV show. The biggest mistake that many job candidates make is thinking that the interviewer wants to know personal information.

Model answer: I am ready to utilize all the knowledge and experience I gained to start my new career, possibly in your corporation. I fulfill all the job requirements. However, I am sure some other applicants fulfill them too. But I am a nice guy and always try to create a good atmosphere in the workplace.

4

Written rule: Do you have any other questions?

Unwritten rule: The interviewer often asks you this question out of politeness. You'd better ask a question about your future job. If you say "no", this makes you look unprepared for the interview, or worse, disinterested in the job or company.

Model answer: If we don't know about manufacturing, does the company hold orientation for new employess?

When it comes to interview, practice makes perfect, and knowing the rules ahead of time is a great start.

So be prepared, be confident, and be yourself, and you'll shine. Good luck!
