Listen up, lovebirds: Valentine's Day is only nine days away!

To loving couples, the 14th of February is the most special day of the year — it means roses, chocolate, gifts, a candlelit dinner at a fancy restaurant and most importantly, each other's company. 

Not so much, however, to those who are not in a romantic relationship. On Valentine's Day, the world turns into a hostile habitat for single people, and they'll have to stay indoors and offline to escape the massive wave of public displays of affection.

"Single" is a general term. One can be single with or without past relationships. It's possible that you're in a relationship dry spell, or you're in unrequited love with someone, or your love life is a blank slate. Which one of these best describes your situation? Which of these do you think is the hardest?

It's a tough race. If knowing your love may never end in mutual affection is hard to swallow, so is having your heart broken by the one you love. Relationships can be painful — but so is solitude.

For this week's chitchat, let's do some soul-searching and share emotionally charged experiences about the eternal misery that is love.
