9月21日，综艺节目《极限挑战》的衍生公益节目《极限挑战宝藏行》中的一个片段引发了网友的热议。节目中，几位明星抵达海拔4860米的西藏某地采摘雪莲花。但实际上，众人采摘的是水母雪兔子，该植物因为生长缓慢以及不合理采摘，已被列入国家二级保护植物名录(征求意见稿)。

The participants on Go Fighting believed they were picking up adonis flowers on a mountain 4,860 meters high. However, botanists say it was Saussurea medusa, a rare plant that was recently added to the draft protected species list.
Botanists say the plant usually grows on stony surfaces at 4,500 meters elevation, where the ground almost always consists of pebbles and little earth. Besides, at such elevations, it is freezing for 8-10 months, so it takes years for a seed to grow and flowers to bloom. Not surprisingly, one often has to walk kilometers before finding one.
Gu Yourong, a botanist from Capital Normal University, said the plant is so rare that they avoid collecting it even for their laboratory. But the reality show participants plucked it.
When television producers do a show, it is advisable for them to do some research about the terrain, the kind of rare species that grows there and how not to harm it. Anyone trekking Tibet's mountainous regions will know how rare the plants there are. And the one thing they should not do to a plant growing on a rocky surface there is pluck it.
On Monday, Liu Yuning, one of the show's participants, said they had picked up a model plant, not the real one, but experts say it is impossible to come up with a replica that looks so real. Besides, even plucking the replica of a rare plant is inadvisable, as most stars have a huge number of fans who will want to do what their idol did.
People need to be educated about rare plants. It might take just seconds to pluck one that took three years to grow.
