A 7-year-old Uygur boy from Hotan prefecture in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, was rushed to Urumqi for an emergency surgery to reconnect his arm, on April 30. In a race against time, crew members, police, medical workers and many others joined in to help.
The last flight, Airliner CZ6820 to Urumqi, was about to depart but was called back to the parking bay and opened its cabin gate where the child was lifted onto a stretcher and into the plane.
"We asked the airport staff to hold back the plane to save the child. The airport officials promised that they would try their best to help us," recalled Abudulmajit, uncle of the seven-year-old.That afternoon, Abudulmajit was tending to his walnut trees when he heard the child screaming."His right arm had been smashed by the gear of a running tractor. Blood was pouring out of the wounds," he said.
They called an ambulance which rushed him to Hotan Prefecture People's Hospital.
After the orthopedists examined the boy's arm, they determined the injury was so severe that the arm would need to be severed, and then reattached to properly align the bone fragments, otherwise the child would be disabled for life.The preliminary surgery was successful. This video shows the intense 6-hour rush to save the boy's arm.
