What have people in Henan been through? Some of them shared their experiences on social media through words and videos to help us understand.

Female netizen shared her story of being rescued

One female netizen shared her experience of being rescued in the subway.

According to the post, the subway she was on was forced to stop at the second station due to heavy rainfall infiltration. As more and more water accumulated and the air became thinner, people in the subway gradually found it hard to breathe, and some began to call their families to say their last goodbye.

After more than two hours of torment, the rescue team found them. The netizen described that during the evacuation process, the conscious ones volunteered to let girls and those who had fainted go first, sometimes separating couples and families. "You can just lean on me," is the sentence of comfort she heard most often when anyone felt uncomfortable or scared.

"I watched the boys and firemen soaking in water, picking one girl after another. I felt lucky to be born in this place and meet these kind and loving people," she wrote.

As of publishing time, the netizen has deleted her post due to unknown reasons. Some said it could be that she hoped people will focus on those who are in need of help, instead of those who have already been saved.

Residents helping out each other

On social media, a widely-circulated video showing dozens of men yelling and pulling a rope together to hoist out people trapped in an underground shopping mall, got millions of views.

In another video, a woman trapped in torrential waters was rescued, with the help of several people and she was lifted to safety.

Venues open for free

During the heavy rain, a lot of venues including hotels, companies, factories, libraries and gymnasiums opened for free to receive people who were trapped nearby.

Media opens emergency channel

At the same time, the media also opened an emergency channel. According to a post published by People's Daily, "If one's family needs emergency assistance due to flooding, one can click on the relevant link to fill in the information. We will be the first to forward the assistance information to the relevant government departments to organize the rescue."

Military on the move

The PLA Central Theater Command said on Wednesday morning that it has activated an emergency response plan and established a front disaster-relief headquarters. More than 3,000 officers, soldiers and militiamen have been deployed in 10 regions to assist in local governments' endeavors to curb aftermaths after city floods, debris flow and landslides.

The newest deployment took place early on Wednesday morning as a brigade of the PLA Air Force's parachute force was ordered by the Central Theater Command to reinforce two hazardous dam breaches along the Jialu River in Kaifeng's Xiangfu district.
