Shepherd's Pie Championship Bake Off - March 16, 2019
So we all know what St. Paddy's day usually ends up being, and that is a green beer mess with a blurry night ahead of ya and an even worse next day.
What if we told you there could be more to it (or at least before it) then you thought.
At 4corners we're going to do the first St. Paddys Day Shepherd's Pie Bake Off to challenge all those cooks, homecooks, that over zealous person who watches too much Chef's Table, a chance to show off their skill in the epicurean world.
The Prize(s):
1st Place: A cash prize of 500 rmb, a round of Foxes Rock beer, and a Foxes Rock basket of goodies will be awarded to the winner as well as laurels for their merit, and a key to the city (yet to be confirmed).
2nd Place: A voucher of 300 RMB and a round of Foxes Rock beer.
3rd Place: A round of Foxes Rock beer, and honorable mention and the gulag (jks, a fairly firm but friendly clap on the back)
'Sounds good bro, how do I win?'
Bake your own shepherd's pie as per your family's, friend's, famed and esteemed food writer's recipe. There will be judges present to test and taste. Their votes will count as 5 votes each, and the rest of the votes will be cast by the most scrutinous, serious, opionionated judges, YOU! (as in the public).
"So what's the craic?"
The dirty details:
The pie must be mince on the bottom, and mash on top, and baked to finish.
Since this is a shepherd's pie contest, we would prefer if it was either lamb/mutton or if it's beef (cottage pie).. otherwise all meats or even non meat mince will be accepted. *Bear in mind though that these will have to be pretty damn special to beat out other pies who are already conforming to the rules of tradition.*
All pies must be enough to fill a 12x20 inch pan with a depth of 2.5inches (28cm x 50cm with a depth of 6.75cms).
All contestants are allowed to register up to a team of 4 and must come up with a team name and a name for their pie.
All contestants need to submit all pertinent information before the 14th of March.
An avatar, logo, or photo may be provided so 4corners can print onto placards and use in relevant promotional material.
Q: 'I live in China with no access to an oven or perhaps just to one that would be put to shame by an Easy Bake oven'
Well there are 2 methods:
1. Come to 4corners to pick up a pan anytime before the 15th of March, fill it up with your mince and topping, and bring it to 4c the day of the event at least 2 hrs ahead of time to finish in our ovens.
2. Bring your mince and topping seperately to 4c before 11 am on the 15th of March, assemble in the pan at 4c, and then bake it.
3. Each contestant or team will be given a chafing dish to keep their food nice and toasty through the event. As well as a table to set up on.
Event will be held on Saturday March 16, 3-6PM.
Participants will have free entry and 3 free drinks.
