HERE IS SHUNDE
Shunde, named from "Zhou Yi", fits the image of the universe and contains the way of Man of Virtue.
"Zhou Yi-Sheng Gua-Xiang Ci" says: Trees are born in the ground, which symbolizes "rise"; therefore, Man of Virtue follows the virtues and accumulates goodness to accomplish the noble cause.
Five hundred years ago, the place named "Shunde" did not exist on the territory of China.
However, the two words "Shunde" have been waiting for more than 2,000 years in "Zhou Yi".
Finally, the place named after this is today's Shunde, Guangdong.
Shunde has both the masculine spirit of Qian Gua and the feminine beauty of Kun Gua.
The Heavens are in motion ceaselessly. The enlightened exert themselves constantly. This is the courage and fortitude of people in Shunde to do business and seek development.

Deltas born of water
In ancient times, the south of Wuling was still a large area of virgin forest. Ten thousand years ago, with the violent geological movement, the ancient Pearl River Delta gradually evolved into the new Pearl River Delta. At that time, most parts of Shunde today were still in the ocean, and there were only a few mountains above the water that looked like islands. Geologically, the ancient Pearl River Delta is the result of geological movements, while the new Pearl River Delta is the result of sedimentation.

By the Ming Dynasty, the rivers in the Pearl River Delta were still very wide and their populations were increasing. In order to compete for the sandy fields deposited in the rivers, frequent battles occurred, which led to the Huang Xiaoyang's uprising. After the failure of Huang Xiaoyang's uprising, the local squires jointly wrote to the court and suggested setting up another county to facilitate governance. In the third year of Ming Jingtai (1453), the court set up Dongyong, Maning, Ding'an, and Xilin, which included four city-states and thirty-seven forts in Nanhai County and Baiteng Fort in Xinhui County to set up Shunde County.

Since the establishment of the country, the contradiction between more people and few lands has always accompanied with Shunde.
Mulberry basis-fish pond looks like a closed internal ecological cycle system, but it is actually a broader commodity trading system and a completely open system.
The natural demand of mulberry basis-fish pond for external food has broken the self-sufficient natural economic state, and cultivated the economic consciousness of Shunde people.

The development of Shunde's commodity economy also benefits from its unique commercial water network system and river's commercial shipping capabilities. In this regard, the ancients left a lot of records. Such as: the convenience of Shunde Shipping, as well as the prosperity of Shunde Business District, Shunde Wharf and Shunde merchants. Longshan merchants who had built up their commercial system.
In the Qing Dynasty, Chencun has become the largest food and timber distribution center in South China. Chencun with many sails on board was connected with Guangxi and Nanyang, becoming one of the four famous towns in Guangdong.
Since the nineteenth century, Shunde people, with the dream of industrial prosperity, have manufactured the first domestic diesel engine and the first domestic gunboat. They have also improved the first mechanical reeling machine, introduced the latest textile technology, and set up the first silk exhibit.
In history, the people of Shunde have seized three major opportunities of opening up and created a miracle of economic development.
The first was the opportunity to trade with Macau. Through development of commercial agriculture and mulberry basis-fish pond, a deep sense of business was cultivated.
The second was the opportunity to trade with Guangzhou. By developing the national industry and commerce, Shunde created a business miracle of being as the "Southern Silk City and Bank of Guangdong".
The third is the opportunity of the national reform and opening up. Facilitating reform and development with the spirit of "daring to be the first in the world" has completed the historical leap in industrialization, urbanization and internationalization.
Shunde cultural context: Shunfeng Twin Towers, Cloud Road and Pine Wind
During the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, Ni Shangzhong, a commander of Shunde County, took the lead in donating to build the Qingyun Pagoda and Shenbu Pagoda, gathering the spirit of the universe at the water gap. Standing there for more than five hundred years, the Shunfeng twin towers guard Shunde's educational context and cultural style.
Ni Shangzhong also built two roads outside the east gate of the county directly to the tower, namely Qingyun and Longu, intending to introduce the style of the twin towers into the city. Pine trees on both sides of Qingyun Road, and eight bridges were erected along the way. After decades, vigorous pine trees entered the clouds, and the voice of trees was like the sea, and the "Cloud Road and Pine Wind" has been the first of the eight views in Shunde, handed down from generation to generation.

Although Shunde is located in Lingnan, the intellectuals of the past dynasties took Confucian culture as the orthodox and adhered to the life philosophy of "making the world better if you're rich, otherwise do the best of yourself ". Besides farming, reading and affecting family style, the intellectuals in Lingnan actively served the country through the Imperial Examination.
From the Northern Song Dynasty to the end of the Qing Dynasty, Shunde had a total of 3 literary champions, 1 military champion, 762 imperial scholars and 2397 first-degree scholars. Among these people, there are not only honest officials, but also many brave generals. In Shunde folk, Han Lin's poems and calligraphy, and martial arts genre have their own advantages and long history.

On this basis, the Shunde people carried forward Cantonese opera with both cultural and martial arts. Since the modern times, a large number of famous Cantonese opera actors and masters have emerged, pushing Lingnan Cantonese opera art to a new height. Ma Shizeng, Qian Liju, and Bai Rongju are the representatives.
The gene of both culture and martial arts has been reflected most in Bruce Lee. Bruce Lee (1940-1973, born in Jun'an, Shunde) is a famous martial artist and an international Kungfu movie star. In Bruce Lee's founding of Jeet Kune Do, the perfect combination of philosophical ideas in Chinese culture and actual combat in martial arts is a philosophical system with both culture and martial arts.
There is a saying in Cantonese: Shunde Ancestral Hall Nanhai Temple.
The scale and quantity of Shunde Ancestral Halls is the largest in all parts of Lingnan.
The ancestral hall is an important place for ancestral worship and discussion, as well as an important place for restricting members' behavior and maintaining harmonious neighborhood relations.

In Shunde, there are few villages with a single family name. Most of them live together in the same village with multiple family names. Many clans have strict rules, and offenders will be punished and even dismissed from the clan.
The ancestral hall vigorously spread and promoted the Confucian ethics of harmony in the neighborhood in the governance of the village, and formed a good local and family style.

Shunde is the "Gastronomic Capital of the World" assessed by UNESCO. As the second city in China to receive this award, it was later than Chengdu, earlier than Macau and Yangzhou.
As early as the Qing Dynasty, it was said: "Shunde is the hometown of milk and honey. As to food, Guangzhou is less exquisite."
The main characteristics of Shunde cuisine are: "comprehensive in five flavors, leading in six arts, eating and drinking easily, and following its natural tendency."
In Shunde, from big meals to family feasts, from dinners to refreshments, from dragon boat meals to annual reunion feasts, from home-cooked dishes for family and friends gatherings, to even a thousand tables of traditional feasts for the elderly, the food culture permeates all aspects of life, forming the local social atmosphere of enjoying and being good at cooking.
Shunde Sashimi is one of the most representative cuisines. The cooking method of Shunde Sashimi is inherited from ancient times, which fully reflects the ancient relics of Shunde's cuisine "the more delicate food is the better. The more finely meat is the better".
On October 28, 1949, the Guangdong, Jiangxi, and Hunan Border Group of the People's Liberation Army advanced into Daliang. Shunde was liberated, and a new chapter in history was opened.
Over the 70 years since the founding of New China, Shunde has undergone tremendous changes. Especially in the past 40 years of reform and opening up, Shunde, which has been at the cusp of reform and development, has become an increasingly open place.
Since the reform and opening up, with the strength of one county, Shunde has inherited the "spirit of central ditch", the "spirit of Ganzhutan" and the "spirit of dragon boat" to create miracles one after another of the comprehensive economic and social development. Those passionate days, like shining youth, have become our common memories.
In those years, Shunde was the largest household electrical appliances production base in China, with its own production accounting for 25% of the country. Many people know Shunde from the well-known trademarks, such as Xianhua, Rongsheng, Midea, Kelon, Galanz, Macro, Kangbao, Vanward, and Lesso.
Over the past 40 years of reform and opening up, Shunde has been wearing a campaign gown, being a pioneer and a reformer, and the test field for reform. However, standing at a new starting point in the new era, Shunde is facing serious problems such as severe shortage of industrial space.
The village-level industrial parks that used to be the "production bed" of industrial development in Shunde cover 70% of the industrial land that has been put into production. However, the parks only contributed 4.3% of the tax. The backward production capacity, the hidden dangers of safe production, and the high concentration of environmental pollution are Shunde's biggest obstacles to quality development.
At the 2018 District Party Congress, the Shunde District Party Committee and District Government regarded the transformation of the village-level industrial park as the "number one project", and a "tough battle" to crack the historical problems with new development concepts began.

In September of the same year, the Deepening Reform Group of Guangdong Provincial Party Committee formally approved that Shunde should be the first to build a high-quality development system and mechanism reform as the innovation experimental zone in Guangdong Province, requiring Shunde to boldly test, innovate, and make independent changes. Thus the high-quality development of Shunde may provide experience for reference of Guangdong Province.
With the support of Guangdong Provincial Government and Foshan Municiple Government, Shunde resolutely gnawed the "hard bone" of "village reform" with the responsibility and courage to be responsible for the history, the present and the future. Shunde will continue to take advantage of the momentum, with a clearer goal. By the end of 2021, more than 90,000 mu will be demolished and renovated, and 45,000 mu will be renovated, so that the dilapidated village-level industrial park will completely withdraw from the stage of history.
The vigorous transformation has gathered strong entrepreneurial enthusiasm, and local enterprises such as Midea and Wanhe have successively set off a "second entrepreneurial" climax. Galanz has joined hands with Henderson Group to build a world-class open source chip base, and Country Garden Bozhilin Robot Valley will build the entire robot industry chain.
In the process of transforming village-level industrial parks, "Shunde Iron Army" of the new era who dares to lead and test was forged with their struggling spirit. They are not only the precious asset of this "tough battle", but also the vital force for Shunde to practice new development concepts and achieve high-quality development in the new era.

The Guangdong Provincial Party Committee fully affirmed Shunde and put forward higher requirements for building Shunde as Guangdong Province's implementing the new development concept experimental zone in the new era.

In the new era, the honor we have obtained together is closely related to high-quality development.
Shunde has ranked first among the top 100 comprehensive national strength regions for eight consecutive years. It has been selected as one of the "Top Ten Demonstrative Counties and Cities in China's Comprehensive Well-off Society" for eleven times. Shunde also ranked first among the top 100 green development zones in the country for two consecutive years.
In Beijiao Town, Shunde, there are two Top 500 enterprises in the world standing side by side. One town with two business giants has formed a unique landscape in the development of Chinese private enterprises. One is Midea. The other is Country Garden.

With the development of the Internet economy, Midea and Country Garden have successively entered into the intelligent manufacturing industry and the robot industry.
In Shunde, another one hundred billion level industrial cluster has been formed in Beijiao as their center, with Midea KUKA intelligent industrial base and Bozhilin robot valley as the support. Industrial clusters have attracted talents, technology, R & D teams and cooperative projects from all over the world. Among them, Beijiao Industrial Design City has gathered more than 8,300 designers and completed nearly 10,000 innovative designs.

In 2020, in the face of the sudden COVID-19 epidemic, Shunde responded calmly and insisted on focusing on epidemic prevention and control on the one hand and development on the other. Shunde planned early and determined to organize enterprises to resume work and production, and the economic development showed a good momentum of growth against the trend.
In the first three quarters of 2020, Shunde's GDP has turned from negative to positive, with a year-on-year growth of 3.0%. The added value of the above-scale industries increased by 6.0% and the total export volume increased by 5.8%, which attracted a lot of attention from the central government media.
This year, the transformation of the Shunde Village-level Industrial Park has been overwhelming, and the decisive results have been achieved, which effectively leveraged various economic and social fields towards high-quality development.
