Do you know more about China than the average foreigner?
By Erik Crouch
Foreigners: China Daily is very disappointed in you. According to a recent study picked up by the state-run paper, most foreigners living in China know what pandas are (good job, you!) but have difficulty with other aspects of Chinese culture and history that the Daily considers "fundamental."
We have taken 14 of these "widely recognized symbols" of China, and turned them into a quiz - fair warning, the questions get more difficult as you go along.
We took some liberties with the material here (it gets a bit old if every question is, "Do you know what this is?") but tried to loosely follow the Daily's guidelines.
According to their report, only six percent of foreigners have an "excellent" understanding of Chinese culture.
4.5 percent are "very good," and 15.3 percent are simply "good."
That leaves 60.9 percent with a "fair" understanding, and 13.3 percent have no idea what the hell is going on. We hope you managed to at least identify the first two images above.
