Guavapass Hits Beijing (plus more health and fitness bits)
This Week in Health and Fitness looks at the latest fitness and health goings on in Beijing so you can live your #bestlife.
Good news for those who enjoy exercising in a traditional gym setting but don't want to commit to a single gym: this past week saw the Beijing launch of GuavaPass (guavapass.com), the Asia-wide fitness platform and community. The idea behind GuavaPass is that you sign up and then can search and book fitness classes (including "open" sessions - basically just gym time) at a number of different studios and gyms across the city, up to three classes per studio per month. Gyms they're working with in Beijing include B Active, Glo Kitchen + Crossfit, Fight Fusion, and Living BIGG.
To celebrate their arrival, GuavaPass are offering 50 percent off promos for a limited time only. That makes a rolling one month pass RMB 688 per month, or a three-month pass RMB 588 per month. If we're honest, once you add this up to an annual fee there are most certainly cheaper gyms available in Beijing, but we like the idea of being able to mix up your workouts between, say, a CrossFit box and yoga studio. Head to guavapass.com/welcome/beijing to sign up.
Now, you're going to need a whole lot of protein after all that exercising and what better way to get it than through some tasty nut butter. Good old Skippy can be picked up for any convenience store around town, but more natural versions with minimal added sugar and salt can be hard to find. As nut butter fiends, we're thus very excited to hear about Naked Nut Butters, which will be launching at Ramo this weekend. Made with all-natural ingredients, the nut butters come in intriguing-sounding flavors such as cashew tiramisu and almond chocolate chip. Catch Naked Nut Butters founders Katie and Meredith at Ramo on Saturday and Sunday, September 24-25 from 3pm onwards. For those taking a break from the whole clean eating thing, Ramo will also be serving a special almond butter flatbread topped with fresh fruit and chocolate-Cointreau dressing.
Finally, if you're taking one last jaunt off to sunnier climes for the October holidays (don't rub it in...) and all of the above delicious health news hasn't done enough to get your beach body into shape, then give it a last ditch effort with a juice cleanse. All of Juice By Melissa's juice cleanses are 10 percent off until October 1. Note that they will be closed from October 1-3, with delivery resuming at 4pm on October 4.
On another note, The Beijinger's 2016 Pizza Cup and Festival is just around the corner. The celebration kicked off last week with Pies for the People. Get special deals from various pizza parlors around town. Click here for more details.
In addition, tickets are now on sale for our October 15-16 Pizza Fest at the Zaha Hadid-designed Wangjing SOHO. Tickets are limited so buy ahead to make sure you don't miss out! Click here to purchase.
