Activities at This Year's Pizza Festival, Sep 16-17
As with our Pizza Festivals of the past, come September 16-17 at Wangjing Soho, it won't be just about seeing how many of the 30 or so pizza places you can stuff into your day/face or how many (hopefully) weird costumes you'll spot along the way. No, you can also expect a slew of some of the finest entertainment our city has to offer.
Moonglow Burlesque
Lions will be on hand to finish the scraps
At our carnival-themed extravaganza, you'll be treated to the likes of titillating performances from the girls of Moonglow Burlesque, a Chinese lion dance, energetic moves from square-dancing grannies (pictured at top), and even cheerleaders, pom-poms and all.
Last year's pizza tossing competition brought the crowds
For games, there'll be basketball arcades, pizza-themed sumo wrestling, and Asahi-sponsored table fussball. Kids (and big kids) will also revel in a merry-go-round, face painting from Prestige Education, and pizza drawing courtesy of Aidi School. As if that wasn't enough, Tube Station will be running their own stage, including pizza tossing performances and a chance for the kids to get a little messy as they give the art of pizza making a go for themselves.
DJ Bombaklat Lee
As for the music, The Hunters will be on hand to energize the crowds on Saturday, whereas Stevie Mac and The Mac Daddies will take the stage on Sunday, and jazz band Time Out will be teasing out twirls, foot-taps, and head-nods on both days. Are your ears already ringing with excitement? We'll also have DJ Bombaklat Lee and DJ Freshmoney Spinning representing Club Mix, and DJ Cousin Kippy on the main stage spinning anything from Carribean, reggae, funk, '80s pop, and doo-wop – a combo guaranteed to have the masses dancing by nightfall.
Pizza even makes for a fabulous dance partner - is there anything it can't do?
While we're making the final arrangements over the next 10 days, all you need to do is to put all your plans come September 16 and 17 and prepare your gut for one of the biggest foodie events of the year. In order to make the most of your time, we strongly recommend you buy your RMB 20 tickets in advance so as to avoid the queues come the day (they're cheaper too!). Simply scan one of the QR codes below and be whisked away.
Tickets for the event will cost RMB 25 at the door, or RMB 20 advance,
which will also snag you a free picnic blanket. So,
what are you waiting for, grab your tickets now to make sure that your
future-self doesn't go hungry. Make sure to mark the dates in your
calendar, snag your tickets early by
scanning the QR codes below, and start making a mental note of all the
pizza you will shove into your face from now until September so that you
can better revel in the joy that is the Beijinger 2017 Pizza Festival. You'll need it to fuel your carnival costume-making imagination!
