Purple is the Warmest Color on Tribe's Hearty New Menu
Never ones to rest on their laurels for too long, Tribe have once again shaken up their menu for the new season, this time introducing a series of heartier dishes that are perfect for the dropping temperatures. The dishes are all inspired by the color purple, featuring plenty of purple fruits and veg such as red grapes, purple sweet potato, purple yam, red cabbage, and beets.
Eggs Benedict with beet tofu hollandaise
That latter vegetable features prominently in one of our favorite dishes from a recent tasting, the Can't Beet Eggs Benedict With Salmon and Potato Rosti. The eggs benedict is topped with a virulently pink hollandaise made from beets and tofu, and has the added benefit of being gluten-free, since the usual English muffin is swapped out for a savory potato rosti. Fans of sweet breakfast/brunch dishes will want to try the Float Like a Fruity Smoothie Bowl, which gets its purple color from butterfly tea powder, an Asian flower that has become popular recently thanks to its purported healthy aging effects. We particularly like the addition of quinoa in the base of the smoothie bowl, which makes it more filling than your average fruit and milk blend.
Mackerel and arugula salad
Purple veggies aside, one of the other star ingredients on the menu is protein and healthy oil-packed mackerel, which appears in both the Full of Fish Almond Flour Pizza (gluten-free, fyi) and the Mighty Mackerel and Arugula Salad. Your editor preferred the latter (but only because I'm not a fan of fish on pizza), the rich fish balanced out by zesty pomelo and arugula and made filling with the addition of quinoa and roasted root vegetables.
Lamb meatballs in tomato and red wine sauce
Other new main courses include a vegetarian almond flour pizza topped with figs and arugula, squid ink spaghetti with tomato and anchovy sauce, and lamb meatballs in a tomato and red wine sauce with taro mash. They have also brought back a couple of popular winter dishes from past years, including their Warm Up Your Winter Kimchi and Beef Noodle Soup. If you want to treat yourself after all that healthy food, do not miss the Ravishing Raspberry Pie, which is as good as any we've tasted in Beijing's high-end bakeries.
The vividly colored Good Vibes juice
You can even find purple elements in the juice and cocktail selection. Purple dragon fruit, grapes, pomegranate, and raspberry are the leading stars in these new drinks, such as in the Mexican Wrestling Juice, which combines pomegranate and lemon juice with a cheeky shot of tequila. They have also added ginger, which is super healthy and warming in winter, to many of the drinks.
