TRB to Open New Dining Concept in Sanlitun

2017-10-23 Kyle M. theBeijinger

Temple Restaurant Beijing (TRB) Hospitality Group – the fine dining powerhouse behind such elegant venues as TRB Hutong and TRB Forbidden City – has set its sights on Sanlitun's Taikoo Li for its next project.

Titled Hulu and slated to open in early 2018, the new venue will open at the prime third-floor location formerly occupied by recently shuttered Cantina Agave. Founder and owner Ignace Lecleir and his colleagues announced the new venture in their TRB Hospitality WeChat group this afternoon (Oct 23). Part of the post said that in "early 2018, Hulu will open its doors as a new member of the TRB Hospitality Group, to serve in a casual, yet contemporary ambiance a menu full of comfort food and sharing dishes in the heart of Sanlitun, Taikoo Li South."

That more leisurely vibe is quite different from the original Temple Restaurant Beijing that first took the capital's restaurant scene by storm, thanks to its impeccably crafted fine dining fare, its elegantly professional service, and its pristine atmosphere and decor. Since then their brand has grown and Lecleir has nimbly branched out to more casual endeavors, namely the Forbidden City-adjacent TRB Bites (now TRB Forbidden City). And yet descriptors such as "comfort food" and the “home away from home” vibe described in the team's WeChat post indicate that Lecleir's move toward casual dining will continue.

The team's announcement today was short on further details about the new establishment. Lecleir and his colleagues were unable to provide any further comment other than confirming Hulu's address at Cantina Agave's old stomping grounds, and that it will be comparatively casual.
