6th Annual Beijing Agricultural Carnival Kicks Off in Changping
Want to see the best that spring can offer you? Come check out the 6th Annual Beijing Agricultural Carnival that will run until May 13 at Strawberry Expo Park.
The exhibition features some 200 "creative hands-on" farming activities and 300 exhibitors that demonstrate the best of China's local farm industry.
In addition, the Agricultural Carnival features 180 horticultural displays that include a miniature landscaping model of a "strawberry town," representing the fruit for which Changping is well-known for. The annual expo also features advanced agricultural technologies that include techniques used to cultivate seeds in outer space.
The expo will also feature farm produce, clothing, handicrafts, and furniture available for visitors to purchase.
To help facilitate commutes to the north suburb-situated expo hall, organizers have arranged for four double-decker buses to deliver visitors directly from the subway stations. The buses will depart Tiantongyuan North Station (terminal station of Line 5) and require 40 minutes to make the 14-kilometer trip with each fare costing RMB 5 (RMB 3 with a transport card).
Regular admission to the Beijing Agricultural Carnival costs RMB 50, or RMB 40 if purchased online; students and seniors are charged half-price, while children under 1 meter in height get in for free.
Here are some of the displays that can be found at this year's Beijing Agricultural Carnival:
Saturday's opening of the Beijing Agricultural Festival coincides with "Dragon's Head Raising Day," a festival marked during the Chinese lunar calendar that signifies the day when elemental dragons responsible for wind and rain arise from their slumber.
