Woman Hospitalized by Falling Storefront Sign South of Sanlitun
A
woman on her way to a job interview has been hospitalized from injuries
received by a commercial sign that fell off a south Sanlitun office
building.
A 24 year-old woman named Zhang was struck as she entered the Fuxing International Building, located just east of Line 6 Dongdaqiao Station and immediately next to offices belonging to the Beijinger.
The
woman was taken to nearby Beijing Chaoyang Hospital (just 200 meters
away) where she was treated for head injuries and a broken foot.
Eyewitnesses said the victim was bleeding from the head, but remained
conscious.
The five meter-long fallen sign bears the name of the 7-Eleven convenience store located next to the office entrance, which itself is situated below a sign for the Daina Business Center.
The sign is described by office workers as having been installed just
two years ago. Oddly enough, the incident occurred on Apr 8 on a
relatively placid day, before extremely high winds swept through the
city on Apr 10.
Late last year, Beijing banned rooftop signs and advertisements as part of its ongoing urban rejuvenation campaign that also initiated a crackdown on Shuangjing F+B storefront signs.
The reports say an investigation into the fallen sign has begun. A TV news report of the incident can be seen at miaopai.com.
