Midnight in Peking Walking Tour
The grisly murder of 19-year-old Pamela Werner, the daughter of a retired British diplomat, sent shockwaves through Beijing's foreign community when it occurred in 1937. The murder remains unsolved to this day but was immortalized in Paul French's 2011 book
Midnight in Peking. As French states, "Crime is a way to lift the lid on a society - in this case Peking's foreign community in the 1930s - with both its socially acceptable and socially disreputable sides. It's where these two slices of society intersect that's really fascinating." Join historian and long-term Bespoke collaborator Lars Ulrik Thom as he retraces Werner's last steps this Saturday and shares his groundbreaking additional research into the case. RMB 388. 6.30-9.30pm
