Young China Watchers present Hannah Ryder – China-Africa Relations in Context
The
buzz surrounding China's meeting with the 40-plus African heads of
state at the beginning of September for the Forum on China Africa
Cooperation (FOCAC) may have died down but analysis of what the historic
event means, especially for Africa, rages on. Here, Hannah Ryder, a
former head of policy and partnerships for the United Nations
Development Program in China and founder and CEO of Development
Reimagined, comes to "share her expectations for the next steps by African
and Chinese stakeholders over the next three years, and opportunities
for constructive engagement in those by other partners." Free
(registration required, take your passport). 7.30-9pm. Embassy of the
Republic of Poland

Pizza-Themed Quiz Night
I'll
be the first to admit that pub quizzes are probably the last thing to
leave you unhungover the day after but this one comes with a slight
twist in that it'll be stocked with 50-percent discounted pizza (6-10pm)
to at least give you a solid foundation for any drinks that may be
consumed. That and the fact that we're hosting it. Yes, that's right,
the Beijinger is putting on a special pizza-only pub quiz at Paddy's in
the lead-up to our Oct 13-14 Pizza Festival. So head along a test your
knowledge on one of the world's favorite foods. Free. 8-11pm. Paddy

Stomp
The one
and only musical to have made a trash can look vaguely exciting, Stomp
(also pictured at top), returns to Beijing in a clatter of instruments
that may or may have been grifted from the local recycling plant. All
kidding aside, since originating in Brighton, England in 1991, this
performance has traveled across the world, winning over audiences with
its blend of dance, music, and theatrical performance. Perhaps even more
reason to see it: the show was discontinued in London at the beginning
of this year. RMB 180-780. Until Oct 6, 7.30-10pm. Poly Theatre

off with something a little less drink-heavy this weekend with this

The two will come together on Friday night at the Yale Center for a
special performance in which they present works from composer G. Faure,
Debussy, Beethoven, and Sha Hankun. RMB 100. 6.30-9pm. Yale Center of
Beijing

'Midnight in Peking' Walking Tour
Bespoke
Travel Company pick up where Paul French left off, guiding groups
through the twists and turns of the author's bestselling murder mystery
Midnight in Peking. Historian Lars Ulrick Thom helps to bring 1930s
Peking back to life, following the footsteps of the father of Pamela
Werner, the 19-year-old whose body was found at the base of the Fox
Tower, as he frantically searches for clues to a mystery that was never
solved. The walking tour is followed with a cocktail at Nuo Hotel. RMB
388 (includes one free cocktail). 6.30-9.30pm. NUO Hotel Beijing

Cangku Cinema Screening Day: "The Death of Stalin"
Finish
the weekend and ease into the Golden Week holiday with this screening
of The Death of Stalin. One of this year's best-rated movies, the
Armando Iannucci-directed biopic uses humor to take a scathing look at
the power struggle that ensued in the final days of the notorious Soviet
dictator's rule, had all of his cronies been standup comedians gifted
with the world's quickest acerbic wit. Stick around for a completely
unrelated jam session. Free. 8.30pm. Soi Baochao
