How You Will Choose Beijing's Best Pizza for 2018

Michale W. theBeijinger 2018-10-15

Pizza. It's one of the world’s most popular foods, and judging by the literally hundreds of restaurants serving it here in Beijing, China is no exception.

With this much choice, where does one begin? Who serves the best slice in the city?

Well, that's really up to you. Each year we tap into the collective wisdom of our diverse, internationally-minded readership to select
Beijing’s best pizza. Once again democracy reigns supreme with us putting the vote in your hands. Or more accurately, mouths.

Voting never tasted so good

Here’s how it works
The winner of the Pizza Cup 2018 will be announced in early November, so you've got plenty of time to eat your way through all the pizza the capital has to offer, both at our
Pizza Festival this weekend, and by working your way through our exhaustive list of entries.

Ready, Set, Eat
Be an informed voter, and eat Before You Vote!

Get started this weekend at our
annual Pizza Festival (Oct 13-14), where you will have more slices on offer than you can fit in your belly. We'll be there from 11am to 8pm; tickets are RMB 30 at the door (early bird tickets have sold out). You can also expect a day’s worth of live entertainment to fill the moments when you aren’t stuffing your face.

Come both days to try as many as you can.

Voting Begins...
After you’ve stuffed yourself at this weekend’s festival, we’ll release the preliminary round of voting on
Sunday night at 8pm.

You’ll have 100-plus different pizzas to choose from, from four groups that have been seeded to assure strong competitors are distributed evenly across the brackets. To compile the list, first we start with last year’s Top 100 –
read the list here – and check it for places that have closed since last year. We then add in all the newbies – and there is certainly a lot to try.

Your job is to name your Top 8 from each group.

Pizza: It's everywhere

The Finalists are Announced
After five days of gathering your opinion, the eight venues with the highest number of votes will be seeded in our 32-contestant
World Cup-style sudden death competition bracket.

This bracket will be put up for another round of voting – and also gives you a chance to “fill out your dance card” so to speak and try those top vendors before casting a ballot.

In each successive round, the number of contestants is cut by half. We'll keep doing that until only one remains:
Your pizza champion for 2018.

Again, we urge you to try before you vote – so that when it comes time for you to select the best, you are an informed voter. The more you try, the better. (You may think you already know your favorite, but how many of the 100 have you really tried?)

This is a vote we do not take lightly. We do everything in our power to ensure that the result of this exercise – an authoritative list of Beijing's Best Pizza – is both fair and reflective of the diversity of Beijing’s pizza scene.

So what are you waiting for? Go out and gorge!
