OK, so admittedly there will be plenty of drinking at this year's Maovember launch (there always is) but we'll forgive you for tagging along considering it's all in the name of a good cause. Now in its sixth run, the month-long event kicks off at XL Bar, and there'll be plenty of food and drinks to go around (20 percent of all revenue will go into the Maovember pot), as well as mustachioed pins on offer so you can show your support.

Author Dinny McMahon comes to the EU Chamber of Commerce on Friday to discuss his new book China's Great Wall of Debt, an in-depth look at how "China has powered ahead for as long as it has not because it is immune to crises, but because its government has so far managed to intervene to stave them off." Beverages are provided by the organizer and the class is completely free unless you want to take your creation home (RMB 350 and up).

Chicago

The second longest running musical in Broadway history, Chicago now comes to Beijing in all its American prohibition-era, jazz, and swinging glory. Debuted in 1975, the musical tells the story of nightclub singer Roxie Hart who, after shooting her lover, fights to stay off of death row, taking a satirical look at greed and corruption in the US' criminal justice at the time and the concept of the "celebrity criminal".
