The Perfect Dress for Every Bride-to-Be at LOVA WEDDINGS

Whether you have had a specific wedding dress in mind since you were 10 years old or have never given it a second thought, choosing the dress for your big day can be an overwhelming task! However, working with the right bridal salon makes the whole process relaxing and stress-free – after all, what’s not to like about spending a couple of hours surrounded by beautiful, sparkling dresses? We teamed up with bride-to-be Maria, who is getting married next year, at Scandinavian-inspired brand LOVA WEDDINGS in their newly opened Jinbao Place bridal boutique, to find out how they tailor the process to each bride and make it a smooth ride.

LOVA WEDDINGS is the brain-child of Swedish-born designer Lovisa Tedestedt. Lovisa stays true to her native Scandinavian simple, creating timeless and elegant bridal gowns. The Beijing boutique, which opened earlier in 2018, is one of three in China, alongside Shanghai and Shenzhen (as well as multiple locations in the USA). The word “lova” means promise in Swedish, a fitting word for a day when you vow to love and honor your partner as long as you both shall live. The word “promise” also runs through the core of LOVA's business as they promise to work with every customer to establish their true needs and send them away with a perfect dress that meets all their bridal requirements.

In order to discover Maria’s perfect gown, the LOVA team began by getting a detailed overview of Maria’s wedding plans, including the location and theme of her wedding, as well as her typical style and any wedding dresses she was drawn to. The consultation is conducted in English to ensure there won’t be any miscommunication. During the consultation, Maria revealed that she had both a traditional church-based wedding and a more casual celebration with friends at a beach-side resort planned, hoping to find two subtly different dresses for both occasions.

Next came the most exciting part of the process: actually trying on the dresses. This is a fun and often emotional experience for any bride and LOVA makes it extra special thanks to a changing area with a 180-degree mirror surrounded by elegant silk curtains. As Maria slipped in and out of dresses, the team described the details of each dress and made subtle suggestions for a perfect fit. All of LOVA's dresses are made with premium fabrics, including 20 different varieties of silks, designed with the comfort of the bride in mind. The goal is for the dress to accentuate and match with the bride’s natural beauty instead of overshadowing it, something other bridal stores often forget to highlight.

Although many brides come to LOVA with a clear picture of their dream dress in mind, many find themselves becoming more flexible once they try on different styles. For example, Maria preferred simple lines but found herself captivated by the first dress she tried on, a dreamy confection of semi-transparent tulle and lace with a large ball gown skirt and train. “The fabric feels wonderful on and is incredibly light, much lighter than you would expect a dress of this size to be,” Maria said. In the end, Maria made the important final decision and selected this as the dream dress for her upcoming church wedding, picking a simpler silhouette with a low back and sparkling crystal details for the second half of her celebration.

After the gown selection is finalized, the LOVA team will take your measurements and the process of making a custom-made hand-tailored dress will begin. The whole process takes 10-12 weeks or sometimes longer if you want to alter the design of the dress or make a custom design. LOVA also stocks a number of simple bridesmaid dresses that can be rented or custom-made to your requirements, as well as a range of evening gowns in the same high-quality fabrics.
