A History of Beijing in Ten Maps

At this presentation, historian Lars Ulrik Thom will describe Beijing's past 100 years as seen through ten different maps. He'll pose (and hopefully answer) questions such as, "What was Wangfujing called during the Cultural Revolution?", "Where was the first ring road?", "When did the first embassies in Beijing open?", or "How did the Japanese change the city?" By plotting these past measurable changes throughout the city against their cultural impact, perhaps we can better understand what effect the latest redevelopments will have on the city, and us.

RMB 60, RMB 30 (students) (ID required). 7.30pm. Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands

Friday, Dec 7
