Tuesday, Dec 11

An Evening With Danish Journalist Philip Khokhar

On Tuesday, Danish correspondent and author Philip Khokhar will speak at The Bookworm about his experiences of reporting in Kabul, Afghanistan's historic and war-torn capital. The discussion comes in tandem with the release of Khokar's first book earlier this year, which "takes you beyond the rolling cameras and portrays the personal stories of people's lives in Kabul and how they try to maintain a sufferable life in the chaos."

RMB 60 (includes a drink). 8-9.30pm. The Bookworm

Wednesday, Dec 12

Pluto Moment

Aotu Studio host the screening of Pluto Moment, the 2018 Ming Zhang-directed drama that he describes as the "metaphoric presentation of the difficulties of the filmmaking process itself." The film centers on a group of filmmakers who set off of a location scouting trip, though they soon find that it is in fact themselves that they are investigating. The film was also selected to screen in the Directors' Fortnight section at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival.

RMB 40. 8pm. Aotu Studio

Thursday, Dec 13

The Gallery Grand Opening at The Bell

The Bell, the restaurant that replaced Nali Patio favorite Migas, holds a grand opening party for their new exhibition space, simply dubbed The Gallery. The gallery hopes to create a space where art meets electronic music and for its inaugural show will pair the work of photographer Kornel Szennovitz with music by DJ Julianna Lima.

RMB 50 (one free drink included). 7pm. The Bell

Friday, Dec 14

A trip to Beijing Flea Market's holiday market should put you in good stead, featuring products from 40 vendors and "some of the best local, independent design, and crafts from both established and emerging makers." They'll also have mulled wine from The Local and spiced rum from Bonne Nani (should you want to have a cheeky one to put you in the holiday spirit).

Todes Ballet

Todes ballet troupe from Moscow work with everything from contemporary ballet to break, and from hip-hop to jazz, making for a ballet experience quite unlike anything you're likely to see elsewhere.
