Clint Eastwood's 'The Mule' Coming to China



The Mule, directed by Oscar-winning director Clint Eastwood, has been set to release in China on Aug 26. The film will be screened in theaters under the banner of China's National Alliance of Arthouse Cinemas. Based on a true drug-related crime, The Mule is produced by Warner Brothers and stars Eastwood himself, Bradley Cooper, Laurence Fishburne, and Michael Peña. Eastwood takes the lead role, playing an old veteran turned drug mule whose past starts to catch up with him as quickly as the authorities.

'Cold Pursuit' Starring Liam Neeson Set for Sep 6 China Release



American action drama film Cold Pursuit has scored a Sep 6 China release. The Hans Petter Moland-directed film stars Liam Neeson, Emmy Rossum, Laura Dern, and Julia Jones. The film is based on the 2014 Norwegian film In Order of Disappearance. Neeson plays a father who seeks out revenge against drug dealers after his son dies of a heroin overdose.

Film Starring Jackie Chan and Arnold Schwarzenegger Set for Aug 16 China Release


Adventure fantasy movie The Mystery of Dragon Seal: Journey to China has been scheduled to release in China on Aug 16. Two massive action stars, Jackie Chan and Arnold Schwarzenegger (pictured at top), appear alongside each other in the film, which depicts the legend of the Dragon King. Chan plays the master wizard of white magic whose job is to protect said Dragon King, winding his way through Britain, Russia, and China.

'Little Q' Release Date Postponed After Male Lead is Attacked



On Jul 22, the team behind the film Little Q announced on Weibo that the film's release date has been pushed from Jul 25 to Sep 20 "out of the consideration of the actor's health." On Jul 20, the film's male lead, Simon Yam, was attacked and stabbed by a man on stage at a business event in Zhongshan City, Guangdong. Currently, Yam remains in hospital following the attack. Directed by Law Wing Cheung, Little Q revolves around the relationship between a blind baker and his guide dog.

Lou Ye's New Film Starring Gong Li Enters Venice Film Festival



On Jul 25, the Venice International Film Festival unveiled the lineup for its 76th edition, which included Saturday Fiction in the main competition section. The drama, directed by internationally renowned Chinese director Lou Ye, stars Gong Li and follows the story of an actress during Japanese-occupied China who returns to Shanghai to perform in a play. Along with Saturday Fiction, the animated film No. 7 Cherry Lane, directed by Hong Kong director Yon Fan, will also compete for the top prize at the festival. Entry of No. 7 Cherry Lane marks the first-ever Chinese-language animated film to enter the Venice competition. In addition, Balloon, the latest film from Tibetan director Pema Tseden, has been selected for the Horizons section.

Warner Music Group and China's Perfect Youth OST Form Strategic Partnership


Warner Music Group has officially formed a strategic partnership with Chinese firm Perfect Youth OST. The two companies will share talent resources and work with various production companies to produce film and TV scores. Several top Chinese music producers, musicians, and filmmakers attended the partnership launch ceremony. In addition, executives from top production firms, such as Bona Film Group and iQiyi, attended the event to show support.

Pearl Studio's 'Abominable' Enters TIFF



The Toronto International Film Festival recently announced the lineup of it's Gala Presentations section. Abominable, an animated comedy adventure film by Pearl Studio, has been selected to screen in the section, which will also act as the film's world premiere. Set in contemporary China, the film follows the journey of three Chinese youngsters and a magical Himalayan snowman. The film is written and directed by Jill Culton who previously worked on films like Toy Story, Monsters Inc., and Open Season.
