As Diners Remain Stuck at Home, Restaurants Turn to Delivery

Tom Arnstein theBeijinger 2020-08-18

As Beijingers tuck into their nth pack of fangbianmian this week, restaurants around the city – who would usually be seeing their dining figures return to normal following Spring Festival – are eager to continue serving their regulars and make up for the lack of drop-in diners. As such, several venues have launched their own special delivery menus so that you can replicate the restaurant experience at home as well as avoid adding scurvy to your list of problems.

Hulu

Never ones to slouch, the team at Hulu has gone above and beyond to make sure you don't go hungry at home. Not only is their delivery menu huge, it's all cooked and packaged in-house before being delivered by one of their team, meaning that you can rest assured that it will reach you exactly as it was intended to be (see the picture at top, for example). As our sister magazine beijingkids put it: "One of the things [we] love about Hulu is their attention to detail when it comes to presentation. You’re not just eating with your mouth. You’re eating with your eyes too." None of that attention to detail is lost here. Read more about the service here and add WeChat ID: ilovehuluforever for ordering (limited to 25 sets per lunch and dinner)

Migas Mercado

Migas Mercado has taken the lull in customers to launch their first delivery menu (currently only available via Jinshisong as Sherpa's has suspended service), boasting the majority of their regular dine-in tapas menu as well as various paella and rice dishes, burgers, in-house-made sausages, and soups. The service is available between 11am-8pm.

The Red Chamber

The Red Chamber, which was recently listed as one of the Michelin Guide's best value restaurants in Beijing, is offering a home delivery service with set menus for two, four, and six people, as well as a limited a la carte menu. The menu for four, for example, is priced at RMB 835 and includes a couple of cold appetizers, Peking duck with all the trimmings, three cups cod, and XO sauce fried rice. Reservation is required one day in advance via this link or by calling 8571 6459. Delivery is available daily from 11.30am-9pm until Feb 29.

Maison Flo

Maison Flo has created two lots of set menus for take away. The RMB 168 menus include salad, soup, and a choice of mains (fettucine with a tomato and meat ragout or confit duck leg) as well as bread and butter. The RMB 228 sets also include a ham platter, the option of filet mignon as a main, and dessert of either opera cake or the restaurant's famous red velvet cake.
Others

Other restaurants currently offering special delivery services include Georgia's Feast (185 1860 3423) and Turkish Feast (131 2031 0291), The Local (WeChat ID: The_Local_Sanlitun), The Bake Shop (WeChat ID: the BakeShop), and Gung Ho! (WeChat ID: hellogungho).
