Q Mex Taqueria Launches All-New Vegan Menu and a Jing-A Collab

If you have never been to Q Mex Taqueria, there's likely only one reason why – the lack of vegan and vegetarian options.

That’s no longer the case now that the Tex-Mex eatery has launched its new summer menu, including several meatless renditions of its tacos, fajitas, and mains. What's more, the Taqueria is offering 20 percent off all new menu items during the first week of the launch (until Jun 14).

According to Eli Frischmann, marketing manager at Q Mex, the idea for the menu update dates back to last year. "We started working on some ideas a few months ago,” he says, “and with the whole COVID situation, we actually had time to finalize our menu.”

The new menu is not the only big change for Q Mex to come out of the COVID crisis, however. As Frishchmann explains, “We took quite a hit. People were scared to go out. We were quite focused on our delivery as most restaurants were, and we realized that it was a good way to get our food to people who wanted to eat in the comforts of their home. But what about our drinks?”

That’s how they arrived at the solution of canned cocktails. Even now that diners are free to visit the restaurant safely, the cans are still available for delivery on every major food delivery app from every Q Mex location.

As for the new menu, Frishchmann emphasizes that the vegan and vegetarian options, such as the soft-shell vegan tacos with vegan chicken or griddled vegan spicy chorizo, or any of the quesadillas with plant-based filling, fill an important hole in the Q Mex Taqueria spread.

Chipotle and tomato meatballs, another new addition

But let’s face it – not everyone is going to give up meat. That’s why the new lamb barbacoa tacos are gaining their spot on the menu, as well as chipotle and tomato meatballs served with jewel rice and roasted vegetables. Finish off with a slice of flan cake, a cross between the classic Mexican dessert and sponge cake.

The mains aren't the only portion of the menu to get an update – the desserts are getting a boost too

If you’re looking for something really different, though, you might want to take your eyes off the food for a moment and look at the drinks – specifically, the El Chino Mexican Wheat Beer. Crafted in collaboration with Jing-A, it has hints of fresh lime and tequila, and not a hint of corona... which is how we hope it stays.
