Did you forget that tomorrow is Qixi – aka Chinese Valentine’s Day – because we almost did! Nevertheless, we were reminded just in time, and put together a list of events for every level of relationship, from devoutly lovestruck to devoutly single. If you happen to fall in the latter camp, and need a little help breaking the ice in Mandarin, check out these useful phrases to help you play it cool, while looking super hot.

"Loving Moments" Packages at The Opposite House

From BOGOF glasses of rose champagne at Union all the way through to a staycation package in Suite 95, The Opposite House has a number of deals to set your heart aflutter this Qixi. For the devoutly lovestruck, RMB 3,999 gets you a one night stay at the hotel, in-room breakfast for two, rose petal bubble bath, welcome champagne, and an RMB 1,000 dining voucher that can be used at any of their restaurants. If you want something a little more than champagne, but not as decadent as an onsite sleepover, then check out the special Qixi menus at Frasca (RMB 1,199) and Jing Yaa Tang (RMB 1,520). Both restaurants will be open from noon-2.30pm for lunch and 6-10.30pm for dinner.

Romance Night Out: Char Chinese Valentine's Day Dinner

Watch the night sky light up over Sanlitun while your lover’s eyes light up over the indulgent menu at InterContinental’s Char Bar and Grill. For RMB 1,999 per couple, you can take your tastebuds through a tunnel of love with French oysters and kaluga caviar, scallop and sea urchin, Australian Wagyu beef consommé, a Porterhouse steak, truffle mashed potatoes with Brussel sprouts, baby carrots, and beef jus, plus so much more. Reservations are required, and can be made via WeChat (ID: 186 1102 9628).

Comptoirs de France's Qixi Festival

For those of you who plan on cooking a nice meal at home for that special someone, but are still in need of a present, or perhaps some dessert to end the night, then swing by any Comptoirs de France location and pick up one of their macaroon or chocolate boxes, all of which will be 15 percent off and come with free flowers and a card. If chocolate doesn’t make your partner’s heart melt, then try one of CDF’s newest sakura and raspberry mousse cakes (RMB 46) or heart puff pastry (RMB 68).
Annie's Chinese Valentine's Day

If you and your sweetheart are the kind of couple who care more about the wine list than the food menu, then Annie’s has you covered with an extensive selection of reds and whites, all of which will be 23 percent off, in the name of love of course. And if you book your table in advance, there will be a little surprise waiting for you upon arrival! Oh, to be young and in love again! The deal runs from 10.30am-11pm, and is available at all Annie’s locations across the city.
Paterson at Nanyang Theatre

And finally, we end with something a little different: Jim Jarmusch’s acclaimed film Paterson starring Adam Driver and Golshifteh Farahani, hosted by Camera Stylo and screened at Nanyang Theatre. What makes this event particularly unique is that you don’t have to be in a relationship to attend (duh!), and given the seating arrangement – couples will sit on one side of the theatre while singles will sit another – you might even meet someone special to share next year’s Qixi with! Show starts at 7.30pm, however, Joyland, the new bar above Nanyang will be slinging cocktails and drinks at 12 percent off all night, so best get there a little early. RMB 50. 7.30pm. No. 6 Nanyang Hutong, Dongcheng District.
