Take a Walk Down a Revamped Instreet, Packed with Fresh Openings

For those readers who have yet to stop by to check out what’s new, we’re here to tell you that this walkway now boasts plenty by way of bites to eat and is well worth a drop-in next time you're in the area. Here’s what you’ll find:
Though you can now grab a square slice of Roman-style pie at Forno’s new Sanlitun spot, dining at the original location on Instreet still carries the advantage of free, freshly made focaccia and grissini breadsticks with your order. For the uninitiated, Roman-style pizza is pre-prepared and heated up in the oven upon ordering. This is a break from Bottega, Forno’s sister restaurant, but the quality does not suffer – after all, 2.8 million Romans can’t be wrong.
Like Bottega, it’s also a fine place to grab a drink, from twists on the classic spritz to an exclusive Birra Baladin on tap. Meanwhile, socialites should keep an eye on this venue for late-night parties!
Japanese shaokao at Dain
It seems that no corner of Beijing shall go without Japanese barbecue, and Instreet is no exception. In addition to the near-ubiquitous Japanese skewers, hot pot, sashimi, and steak, diners can also meet their daily calcium quotas with the cheese potato pan and ice cream and cheese sweet potato, among a few other lactose luxuries.
Blueglass, but with extra alcohol?
Prefer your dairy with active microcultures? One of the odder concepts on the street is Blueglass, a yoghurt chain that you may have seen around town. But while the original shop opened in the CBD with a focus on cold brew yoghurt, the Instreet location seems to have nixed the stimulant branding and leaned heavily toward the depressant side of legal intoxicants, not only displaying a full counter of cocktail ingredients at the entrance but packing its shelves with canned yoghurt wine and bottles of yoghurt liquor in various flavors, including passion fruit, grape, and rose litchi. Cuddle up with the giant pink teddy bears and get tipsy.
Fresh fish, shrimp, and more at Aroi Thai
Sea food and curry are plentiful at this upper-midscale Thai restaurant. A few must-try dishes to consider: the yellow curry shrimp, the lemon fish, and, for the adventurous, the large roasted squid.
One of the latest spots to open on the street, Bacchus is a tapas-style bistro. Though dish options are plentiful, the cheesy flatbreads are the most popular choice, though the Bacchus ham plate is a close second. Be sure to grab a bottle of aged French wine to really make it a special occasion.
Kong Coffee
We previously gave Kong Coffee a shout out for their so-called River Sludge Dirty, a thick purple concoction named for the nearby Liangma River, but since then they’ve released a series of bottled cold-brews that are good to stock up on in case of a caffeine-less emergency.
Well hot dog, if it ain't the Miam Miam Truck
Though it’s currently closed for the winter, keep an eye out for the Miam Miam truck’s reopening when the warm weather returns next year. The truck is a great option for a snack (or drink) on the go, with three types of poutine, several hot dogs, as well as iced teas, coffee, cocktails, and Jing-A pilsner on tap.
