EAT: Your bite-sized guide to the best eats to be had in Beijing this week.
Burger lovers no longer need to head to the hutongs to enjoy Side Street's prize-winning burgers, as they have now opened a new dedicated take-out/delivery store on Xiaoyun Lu. Simply search for "Side Street" on Meituan or Ele.me and you can get all the classics such as the K.O. Burger and the Hutong Hipster delivered straight to your door. Even better, much of the menu is currently 50 percent off on Meituan, meaning you get the aforementioned K.O. Burger for just RMB 40.
Having won over diners in the Laiguangying area with their quick and healthy eats, Hulu sister brand Peach is now opening a Sanlitun location. Find them on the second floor of Jenny Lou's Sanlitun, next to In&Out Yunnan restaurant, where they'll be serving a varied menu of salads, sandwiches, pasta, burgers, juices, and more. Look for them to also open a terrace at that location soon.
Make your weekend that much more luxurious with Nuo Hotel Beijing's new Saturday lobster mania. Sample lobster prepared in a multitude of different ways, from green curry lobster to tandoori grilled lobster to lobster pasta or risotto. The lobster feast is held every Saturday, priced at RMB 388 per person.
In what is surely one of the best (and under-the-radar) dining deals going at the moment, Shunpachi at Hyatt Regency Wangjing is currently offering an all-you-can-eat Japanese dining package for just RMB 295 per person (usually RMB 368) if you buy through Dianping. Rather than a buffet, guests order as many dishes as they like, as often as they like from a small menu including sashimi, grilled skewers, maki rolls, and various teppanyaki dishes. The food is of exceptional quality, and the service is friendly and attentive — when we couldn't decide what types of sashimi to order, they just made us up a huge platter (see picture above). Add 90 minutes of free-flow wine, beer, and sake for just RMB 100 (also through Dianping). The Dianping deals are valid until Mar 3, so act fast!
Forget cheesecake or French pastries — make room for Beijing's very own signature desserts, the favorites of the imperial court. Join The Hutong this Sat, Feb 27, and learn how to make your very own traditional Beijing-style sweets. You'll learn how to make "rolling donkey," a sticky rice roll filled with red bean paste, traditional Chinese flour porridge with dried fruit and nuts, and Manchurian sachima (similar to a Rice Krispies treat!). Class costs RMB 350 per person.
