For Beijingers living in Dongcheng district, be careful not to step foot in Tiananmen square and its surrounding areas as it is already closed as construction commences for the celebration infrastructure. The closure will go through Jul 1.
Meanwhile, several major roads surrounding the Tiananmen area will be closed at various intervals for the weekend of Jun 12-13 for a military drill. If you take public transit through that area, buses will be provided with detours.
The closure covers a wide range of areas, extending from Beichen East Road in the east to Aoyuan No.3 Security Checkpoint in the south, from Beichen West Road in the west to National Stadium in the north.
Water sports lovers who enjoy a taste of summer splash will be sad to find that the center has put a temporary stop to activities such as swimming, rafting, and water slides.
Jishuitan Station will return on June 18th
Though it's not related to this summer's celebrations, it's worth pointing out that the reopening of Jishuitan Station has been delayed. Due to construction needs, the closure of Jishuitan Station on Line 2 was extended from Jun 6 to June 17, and the station is expected to reopen Jun 18.
