Beijing is a happening city! Don't miss a thing with our weekend roundup of the latest news.

Smart Crosswalk Lights Switched On Near Yonghegong: Crosswalks around Yonghegong Lama Temple have gotten an upgrade: Lights on either side of the crosswalks now turn green when it is time for pedestrians to cross. The new feature, part of the city’s “Smart Crossing” pilot initiative, is meant to keep drivers aware of the need to yield when people are crossing intersections.
New Park Opens in Yanqing: A new park has opened in Yanqing District. Situated in the district’s northeast, the 45,000-square-meter park is filled to the brim with walking paths, fields, and even special activity areas for children and adults.
High-Speed Rail Services From Beijing Chaoyang Station Enter Operation: High-speed rail services now connect the recently completed Beijing Chaoyang Station to Harbin. Further construction on a full transportation hub – connecting high-speed rail with bus and and subway services – is expected to continue until 2023.
Maitenance on Beijing Central Heating Ongoing: Beijing Thermal Power Group is nearing the end of its treatment and maintenance work on the city’s heating pipe networks. The group expects treatment to finish by the end of the month, after which Beijing’s central heating can finally be cranked up.

Seas of Red Leaves Come to Badaling: For all you lovers of autumn colors out there, the best place to see seas of red and orange is in Badaling National Forest Park, where the “15th Red Leaf Ecological Cultural Festival” has kicked off. There will be a special photography exhibition as well as tree-planting activities. To grab tickets (RMB 33 for adults, RMB 16 for students), search 八达岭国家森林公园 Badaling Guojia Senlin Gongyuan on Meituan.
