Meet the Suburban Line That Goes to Xiangshan
Editor's note: Per city regulations, most of the locations listed require visitors to present negative nucleic acid test results with 48 hours validity prior to entry.
Do you know that there is a suburban train that can whisk you through fields of blooming spring flowers from Bagou (巴沟 bāgōu) to Fragrant Hills (香山 xiāngshān) in just 22 minutes?
For those wanting to have a weekend getaway without leaving Beijing, why not jump on the train and enjoy the beautiful landscapes of the west side of Beijing? Here's a complete guide.
Use subway Line 10 and get off at Bagou Station via Exit A. Once outside, you'll be able to spot the suburban line.
The trip, about 9.04km long, costs anywhere between RMB 3 and RMB 4.
Summer Palace
Get off at the line's second stop and you will arrive at the Summer Palace's west gate. This former royal residence and garden is not only famous for its scenic spots and historic sites, but also for the picturesque mudan blossoms that can be found there dotting Kunming Lake. A walk around the lake basking in the fragrance of these flowers is a wonderful combination.

National Botanical Garden
Along with 130 different varieties of tulips which are all in bloom now, the garden also features nearly 8000 varieties of tropical and subtropical plants. You can take all these in, plus water lilies dotting a vast lake, while walking along the botanical garden's many trails.

Fragrant Hills Park
Although one might argue that autumn is the best season to visit this line's final stop, as maple leaves dominate the entire hill, spring is also a great time to enjoy a different kind of landscape.
Did you know that Xiangshan Park boasts a variety of rare buttercup flowers? This is the perfect season for visitors to enjoy beautiful yellow, red, and pink buttercups in full bloom.
Xiangshan Park will not disappoint you with the mountain flowers!
