The day of reckoning has come and gone and Nali Patio has reverted to its original owners. But due to damage wreaked upon the venue by a demolition crew hired by the outgoing property manager yesterday, the space is now closed to the public over safety concerns.

When we visited Nali before the lunchtime rush at around 11am today (Jul 1), we found the main east entrance still closed and the pathway to the north entrance blocked by two diligent Bao’an and a number of Jiaming Properties employees – the real estate firm that is currently managing Nali Patio.

According to the Jiaming employee we spoke to, the property was closed to public traffic by the local government due to the demolition done yesterday.

Many shops inside the complex were still open for waimai delivery around 11am, but El BarrioDaruma, and Bottega have since closed due to ongoing safety concerns related to the demolished part of the building, a source familiar with the restaurants said.

The source further explained that due to the mess, a lot needs to be cleaned up and repaired. They told us that the current landlord is working as fast as possible to get the building open again. At present, Nali Patio is only open to business owners and staff.

As we reported yesterday, a demolition crew hired by the outgoing property manager – who has been subleasing the Nali Patio space from Jiaming Properties for over a decade – set to work taking down large portions of the complex from the night of Jun 29 to Jun 30. This was reportedly done in an attempt to return the property to its original state as specified in the original lease.

It is still unclear which sections of the building were subject to be torn down, but the extra elevators within the complex leading to upper floors and a separate building which housed Spanish restaurant Carmen have all been torn down.

The only restaurant to have stated that they are closed for the time being since demolitions began was Mosto, while others we spoke to said they planned to remain open or planned to stay open but were uncertain of future plans. The Bell by Martini has also confirmed they will be closed for the time being.

While sections of the building remained open to diners and foot traffic yesterday afternoon, the complex has been and will remain closed until further notice as of today.
